This ThinkPad P16s Gen 4 stands out as a well built Windows workstation with strong CPU and memory specs, a great keyboard, and a vivid 16 inch OLED screen that suits productivity and light creative work. The ThinkPad service experience also gets praise, including fast mail in or onsite repairs. Battery life is only moderate, around 3 to 4 hours under load, and the 300 nit brightness on some configurations is weak for daylight use. The speakers are poor for media, the palmrest can creak, and the Wi Fi card is soldered. A solid pick if you value workstation hardware and support over ultraportable polish.

This or a Dell 16 plus with the below spec... Same price basically.
Intel® Core™ Ultra 9 288V (48 TOPS NPU, 8 cores, up to 5.1 GHz
Windows 11 Home, Copilot+ PC
Intel® Arc™ Graphics
16", Non-Touch, 2.5K, IPS, WVA, Anti-Glare, 300 nits, ComfortView Plus
32GB, LPDDR5X, 8533MT/s, Memory on Package, onboard
2 TB, M.2, PCIe NVMe, SSD
THIS, easily. Aside from the obvious shortcomings, a 300 nit screen is far from ideal, especially if you ever have a need for using it in daylight.

My budget is around 1500-1600, need it for my business. I have never used a lenovo but heard great things about these both.
Its a good laptop, have a X1 Carbon. Get the max warranty. The only thing I had happen was my SSD was loose in the slot. They sent a local tech to my house. If you travel international then get that upgrade. Its a good computer. I would buy two cheap laptops and have them mirror one another as I had my X1 down a couple days with that issue and had a backup Dell I bought for such a occasion. Get two Dells that are $600ish each. I paid $1,500ish after the warranty in Jan 2020 for the laptop. So this is more power and below what I paid so, this is below inflation from 5 years ago.

Have they come out with Thunderbolt 5 yet? You want Nvidia Graphics Card if you want CUDA which you use for things like Whisper audio translation. I would get a screen that is at least 400nits or brighter.

You should use external speakers for serious media work or a headset.
Yes, and everyone should use professional cameras instead of smartphones to take photos of their families 😁 The problem is that hardly anyone does. Why? Because phone cameras are good enough for this purpose. The same goes for laptop speakers: for media consumption, MacBook speakers sound excellent. ThinkPad speakers are only good enough for Morse code.

"serious media work"
I meant for business. ThinkPads with a lot of RAM are typically used for business or school use. A comparable Macbook is almost 2x this price.

Just to make sure I'm not missing something (as it's been nearly 8 years since I bought my Dell xps 15 which has served me quite well), what are the obviously short comings (aside from the low nit screen)?

Cracked one of these open to find out that the wifi card (MT7925) is soldered to the motherboard. WTF?

What is business? Excel? Excel benefits from 2x CPU performance not RAM. The same for browsing.

How can anyone use a ThinkPad for media? The speakers sound just like an internal PC beeper.
Headphones were invented in 1910. Hope that helps.

Yes, and mirrorless cameras the same. And what? How does that change the fact that MacBook sounds 100x better than ThinkPad?
