1) The amount of granular control is quite inclusive. If you turn off all the auto crap, you can manually adjust various thresholds.
2) Beestat. This is a third party project for viewing use and trends. It's worlds better than the garbage ecobee offers with "home iq". Get more details at
https://beestat.io/
or play with the demo at https://demo.beestat.io/ . Be sure to explore the 3 vertical dots on the right of most panels to adjust look back period, especially the custom options.
This project is available via website (app.beestat.io), or via android/ios app from the app store.
3) Developers. As of about a year ago (maybe longer), ecobee disabled the ability to create your own api keys. About the only connectivity these days is via homekit for use with homeassistant.
In addition, you can no longer run your own local instance of beestat because of the above.
When shopping smart thermostats, beestat was the main selling point. The level of reporting is superior to anything i've seen with any other tstat.
BEWARE, the premium model is amazon enabled, and WILL attempt to report back to the amazon mothership even if you're not using any amazon or alexa features. I mitigated this at firewall level.
1) Only allow ecobee dns resolution for *.ecobee.com - I run adguard home dns server, in custom filters the following lines permit this
The first line is a comment, 2nd line blocks all dns resolution for device, 3rd line permits only *.ecobee.com to be resolved.
The device attempts to reach amazon every 50 seconds!
The other mitigation was to block amazon ASN for ecobee at firewall level (pfsense).
Good luck!
Where else are you going to find this Ecobee Premium plus 2 sensors for $190? I had been hoping for this deal and just ordered two.
Added benefit: My utility company has a $50 rebate. This is an amazing deal.

I'm looking for options.
The tstat as well as remote sensors have proximity sensing capability, so effectively, ecobee (and whoever they sell the data to) can see detailed home activity/presence information. I've somewhat mitigated this by rotating the remote sensors away from detecting anyone passing by - sometimes they still pick up a reflection. The tstat uses some kind of rf proximity sensing, not easily defeatable.
