lol. They are probably the most ethical retailer around.

Want a loophole? Get a friend to buy you some Costco gift cards, smallest available denomination (which used to be $25 per card). Your gift card is now your entry pass. When you want to buy something, show the checkout person and ask them to ring you up as a non-member (used to be member 99). Pay using your card and they'll let you use a different card to pay the remainder.

It is a members only club... how else are they supposed to verify your membership?

Is there a percentage "fee" for using a Costco gift card without membership at checkout?Asking for a friend.
No fees. Probably some dirty looks from cashiers.

Can't stand Costco. Hate the way they throw an absolute fit over showing your card to get in.
I know right? I tried to get a huge withdrawal from Chase Bank but those jerks said I had to have an account. What's with these companies and their unreasonable rules??? /s

at checkout.... simply ask for card and valid ID. Members should not have an issue with that. But asking a card at the entrance is an overkill...... I used to love Costco but many things are going in opposite direction lately and started hating it.
That would make the checkout process longer, move the argument about the membership to the checkout line, and make it easier for non-members to use self serve checkout kiosks. For their model to work they need to keep the percentage of non-member buyers as low as possible. People sharing membership cards has been a big source of shrinkage for them The membership is where they break even. They don't want to mark up anything more than 15% and they would rather not keep raising membership dues. So cracking down on card sharing is how they do it. Doing it at the door avoids having to hold up the line 1,200 times a day for the cashier to argue with the customer who is using his cousin's card.

Costco isn't a store for the masses. It's a prestigious club for elites who pay to avoid having to shop with riffraff. If you want to risk your life grocery shopping in a lawless establishment go to Walmart.

Serious Karens complaining about showing card at the entrance. It takes me all of 2 seconds to scan my card as I walk in. Just have your card out before you get to the scanner. Bet ya'll the same ones that complain about showing receipt at the door too
What about the 8 people in front of you that all searching fort their cards while it is 30 degrees outside with a 20 mph wind? What about at checkout when they split their order up into 8 separate orders because they can no longer share their card? Then they get to the door and have 8 different receipts checked.......COSTCO blows.

Imagine the riff Raff that would be in there if they didn't. Better yet, go to Sam's club and see just how bad it can be.

Thanks OP. Picked up two of the enbrighten 100 ft permanent outdoor lights.
One of the reviewers on the page for the lights said that they tried to connect two sets of lights and they wouldn't work right with the app. If you don't mind, could you come back and post here whether you were able to connect and use two sets together?

Plenty of people were using others' membership cards and making a scene at the checkout - it is better for the rest of the real members to check upon entrance, not witnessing arguments. Most importantly for Costco - they implemented self checkout, so the only way to assure real members are using the store is to check upon entrance.
But they don't check your picture on the card when you scan it...

Got it by ordering 5 bags of protein powder that is also on sale today (stocking up and splitting with a family member). The protein powder deals have limits, so I had to buy 2 different flavors across 2 different brands(ON and Levels). Ended up being 52.5 cents per ounce.
if we return those extra items will it deduct from that 50-$?
