Google Fi's 50 percent off promo is a strong low-cost option for multi-line T Mobile service, with reports of solid coverage, good priority, and smooth switching from other carriers. The plan can be especially appealing if you want watch or tablet lines included at no extra data charge, and the higher tier adds international roaming data. The main catches are that Apple Watch is not supported, taxes and fees still apply, and the discount is targeted to port ins and can be finicky at activation. It looks best for Android users who can get all lines activated on time.

Common Questions (5)

  • No. Google Fi does not support Apple Watch cellular service; Apple Watches can only work over Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi, while Android Wear is supported. If you need standalone Apple Watch service, a different carrier is required.

  • The discount is automatically applied on the first month's billing statement, and the 50% off is taken from the total bill including taxes and fees. First bills can generate around day 4, so lines that are not activated in time may miss the promo on that bill.

  • Yes. The offer is for port-ins, and the discounted pricing is tied to new lines that are ported in and activated during the promo window.

  • The Essentials plan can throttle after 30GB, and one user reports average use around 7GB per month. Fi is also described as not deprioritized on T-Mobile, but it is still not the same as an uncapped plan.

  • Watch and tablet data lines are not charged on some Fi plans, and one user reports paying about $140/month for 4 lines, 2 cellular watches, and 3 cellular iPads on Unlimited Everything. The watch add-on is described as free with a phone plan.

Ugh, Google Fi.
TERRIBLE support (worse than Comcast or Mediacom)-- shrinking service area.
Just go with T-Mobile since what Fi sells is a marked up version.
Bad. Bad. Evil company.

Activated 4 lines on December 10. Got 50% on one line only but other 3 lines were charged full price in 1st bill. Credit tracker still says other 3 lines are not activated, totally rubbish. Has anyone ran into same issue?

I activated 4 lines too, got my first bill in 3 days after activation and had 0 promo credits applied. Still waiting for a response from Google Fi's support. what a disaster. Think twice before switching to Google Fi.

i ordered 4 lines before promotion ended but i wanted to get physical sim cards which i got (free) on December 8, i was about to switch all 4 lines but read terms and conditions and there was one line that said : "For group plans, group members must accept the invite and sign up before the promotion expires to qualify for the bill credits ", i reached out to support for clarification and they confirmed that if i would switch now i wouldn't get the promo for 3 out of 4 lines.

Similar issue on getting credit. Two lines activated before Dec 5 are ok, but lines activated after did not get half-off. Contacted Fi CRS, was told no credit for lines activated after Dec 5 for group users. Time to transfer to other service.

It should be possible.. but why would you want to do that just for the watches? If you already have a mobile carrier.. it should be cheaper to add a watch plan line to your current mobile carrier? $10ish or so?
Google Fi is a terrible carrier, do not do it.

Is it safe for me to ask people to join my account for 2 lines? Would anyone like to group with me for 2 more lines?

If you like billing errors and calling them every day for over a week, and deep incompetentcy, Google Fi is your kind of service.
Else, sign up with T-Mobile and cut out the middle man.

They had the promo again in Jan and that expired around Jan 28. And I transferred my number. For posterity, let me share some of my observation:

1. Real human customer service. Wait time on chat is 1-3 minutes.
2. 1st bill is generated around the 4th day since initial sign up. Some lines may pay full price for the 1st month if they fail to activate before that. If you're concerned about this, try best to have all lines ported-in & activated on the 1st day and use some text/call/data and they all appear "activated". This way, no line will miss the discount even on the 1st bill.
3. Everyone always get discount / reduced price from # of lines. But only lines signed up & activated during the promo period get extra 50% off.
4. 50% off amount is on the total bill amount, including tax/fees. So it is a "real" out of pocket 50% off.
5. The app didn't say one of my first activated line as "activated" after the 1st bill was generated, but that line was clearly activated and using many data based on usage graph in the app. I chat with the customer service and they returned a call the next day telling me the credit had been applied. The bill didn't change but when I chose to pay, the amount was reduced.
