Any pros to this over Bitwarden apart from better UI?

They know their software is really good so they hook you in with a little deal like this and then you're stuck. They never give us existing subscribers a break. I dread the day that they will bump prices and I have to switch to some alternative.

When I did a side by side test last year, Bitwarden was a lot worse at autofill on mobile. Core functionality is pretty comparable, just lots of little convenience use cases where 1pw does a better job.

I contacted customer support a few years ago and got some sort of deal, though I can't remember what it was. I've been a customer since I think version 4 or 5.
I really like 1password, though sometimes 1password and Apple's password mechanism like to fight with each other.
Yes, I have done that too. Their customer service is exceptional. That is one of the reasons I continue to stay with them. The security focus and transparency and thorough explanations about it being the primary.

I'm still using using 1Password 6 on multiple devices. I don't want to store my 1Pass data in the cloud anyway, and I find just using Apple's built-in Passwords app is making my 1Password redundant anyway.

Booo. It's that same no love for existing users thing. Come on Agilebits, you can do better.
I've received some $$ off my annual renewal every year as an existing member simply from sending a quick, friendly message to customer service to ask if any discounts are available.

Thanks. I'll do that.
Lastpass security breach was the reason I switched to 1password years ago..... I used Lastpass for 4+ years

why pay for this when free bitwarden is just as good? not a rhetorical question.
Because--for us--it's not just as good. I have to use BW at work, so I'm familiar with both. The Bitwarden interface is clunkier, their autofill is a half-step slower, and their cross-platform experiences between the platforms I have to use--Windows, macOS, iOS/iPadOS is not as consistent. Also, my wife doesn't care for the BW iOS experience, so going that route means its less likely that she would consistently use our password manager. 1Password pricing and lack of any discounts for existing subs is annoying, but overall the experience--for something we use multiple times per day every day--is still worth a buck and some change per week.

I don't think this is for existing customers, only for new customers.

for existing users, could we just export our current data, create a new account to get the discount, then import the data?

Trying to decide on 1Password or Bitwarden. Would pair either password manager with a YubiKey. Will rep for constructive feedback. Thank you.
If you use the yubikey with its FIDO2/webauth protocol the free plan with bitwarden will accept it as a 2FA. its only if you use yubikey OTP protocol that requires the paid plan ($10). I used my yubikeys for bitwarden with that protocol and its pretty easy to setup and use, but also cause I just have the cheaper security key yubikeys and not the series 5, which has a lot more protocol support (though arguably for the average person you don't need those extra protocols/features).

If your employer uses 1Password, you can get you a free personal family account. You should definitely check into that. You can even switch to it if you have an existing account and essentially credit your remaining balance to use if you ever lose the corporate benefit.

Yep, I get it through my work for free. It's a family subscription too!

Moved away when they went subscription-only, proprietary-sync-only, and Electron-only on desktop. If you don't need cross-platform compatibility, the big OS players' free built-in solutions do family syncing now.
