Thanks OP was waiting for Amazon to price match Newegg deal. The VPN on the Newegg deal is worthless since it's Norton

I appreciated how I finally used the digital credits that usually expire (due to me not keeping track of expirations) on Amazon. Was able to clear out my digital credits and purchase this for a few bucks thanks to this post. Thanks OP!

"+ State" is for tax preparation software, not for filing.I'm in MA and, if I decide to do e-fining using H&R software, I have to pay $20 on the top of $30. For you (NY) it's free. But you still have to prepare it.So, yes, you have to have "+ State" version.https://www.hrblock.com/tax-software/state-editions/?srsltid=AfmBOoq-6tiodOjl9gLnIb_8BrPSlG8R3ehRn09... [hrblock.com]Look for tiny "Fees for state & state e-file" on the upper right part of the screen. It has all explanations
This is very helpful info.. The additional $20 charge to e-file STATE should be clearly stated in the label, but it is not.

Where can I find the "additional reward detail"? (I'm a Prime member and have the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card) I only see the "$42.49 (Get 5% Back and additional rewards on select items charged to this card)"

You shouldn't have to pay for the "privilege" of filing your taxes. There was a free program with the IRS, but the lobbyists' and politicians ensured you can no longer use it. Some companies may offer free filing if you are lower income or have simple returns, but sometimes they hide these or push hidden fees. Free Tax USA has free federal file, with state being like $15.

I used this software last year and really liked it. I am a more advanced user who likes to be able to review the actual tax forms and edit them easily.

Anyone have experience with this going from Taxact? I used Taxact for years but have noticed for the last few years that even though it says you can lock in a price early that they still jack up the price the closer you get to filing deadline.

Also, does it let you import from taxact?

Ex-TT user for many years and moved to H&R Block a few years ago and haven't looked back. I have stock transactions and HSA and use Deluxe.

Decided to go with the Amazon option. Was surprised to see that I had $6 in some kind of promotional credits (maybe digital credits that I generally never have a use for?) lurking in my account that got applied, so the Deluxe Federal plus State ended up being $24 (plus, I'll get 5% back for using my Discover card). Given all that, definitely glad to get the purchase out of the way now instead of stalking deals for the next several months. 😅
YES - This is the way to use up those slow shipment method credits at amazon for free or even more discounted software or music. Thanks for posting!

Some companies may offer free filing if you are lower income or have simple returns, but sometimes they hide these or push hidden fees. Free Tax USA has free federal file, with state being like $15.
So FreeTaxUSA using the word "free" deceptive charges and upsells to $15 and they are the good guys?

You do not have to pay anything for tax prep, filing or efiling fees. You can file on paper which is the cheapest option with only the small cost for printing and postage. That is not due to corporations but due to the government forcing you to file under threat of imprisonment. You do not have to pay Block anything unless you find the service they offer a value. It is like when you get a flat you can get somebody to help you for some money or you can do it yourself.

The government run Direct File that you describe as"free" was costing taxpayers millions with cost predicted to skyrocket into the future. It was basically a welfare and as with all welfare program run by government workers always to do things for people that can be easily done yourself cost much more

Th "free" government program cost somewhere between $138- $900 per return. Estimates vary as it is alway hard to tell what government does with the money as DOGE and other efforts are finding out..If we do them on paper it may cost $2. I If choose and want use block it costs $25.

How do you get that $138 - $900 is "free" or of value.

You even insinuate that the government agency, workers and crony corporate entities and subcontractors involved soaking us for $138 - $900 per return are some heros saving us from the evil capitalist.

The data shows the story. A small group of people taking advantage of a welfare program and the people making that available cost the rest of the taxpayers big time to the tune of $41 million. Even if you the pay for state efile on top of the $25 wants for Block to do the same taxes it would have only cost 5.6 million in the free market.

How does anyone even believe this myth you propagate that is shown time and time gain to be completely false! We are 40 trillion in debt believing suc BS and following your path my granddaughter life will suffer as she must pay for what you consider free, your due and privilege

Note to that federal system did not tie in with state and if you need a state or to efile state yourself. It is going away thank god and we all will save some drastic amounts of money. You know it no good, and that is why you seem to chose the upselling capitalistic corporate entity with a deceptive name FreetaxUSA.

I would much rather have my money go to Block and the private sector where I may have a chance at getting some back. Better to go to some clerk at Block then like the bilions we saw disappear and go to foreign nations that are sometimes our sworn enemies.

You also fail to note that almost every big tax prep package offers free filing for people under certain income limits. They did that before the wasteful IRS program and they do it now.

There are also thousands of other ways not government to get help at free or low cost with taxes that do not cost some other taxpayer money that is already tight

If you are so concerned about poor people the best thing you could do is buy Block and you can do twenty five returns for you neighbors at $1 each with just having to pay postage to mail them in. The same service at FreetaxUSA that you want to send people to would cost at least $325.

The IRS Direct File pilot program for tax year 2024 (filed in early 2025) cost at least $41 million in taxpayer funds to operate. This figure is considered an understatement of the true costs, as it did not include all agency support functions or startup costs.
Here is a breakdown of the costs:
Total Cost: The U.S. Treasury reported that the program cost at least $41 million to operate for tax year 2024. The IRS's total budget for the pilot in fiscal year 2024 was $114 million.
Cost Per Return: With approximately 296,531 returns filed in tax year 2024, the program's operating cost was estimated at about $138 per return, based on the $41 million figure. Other government watchdog estimates placed the cost as high as $902 per return when accounting for the full $114 million budget.
Pilot Program Details: The program was funded by the Inflation Reduction Act. For the initial 2023 tax year pilot, over 140,000 taxpayers used the service, which the IRS estimated saved users $5.6 million in tax preparation fees.
