Microfiber is better for cleaning screens and windows, car, etc. Where you don't want fuzz.

Microfiber isn't very good for cleaning things that are actually dirty. The texture of these and cotton rags help with cleaning. I work in a kitchen and we get regular cotton rags for cleaning, but once every 8 months they'll accidentally send us some microfiber ones, and they're annoying to use for certain cleaning tasks, as they stick or don't slide as well.

I like them for automotive and equipment work. They're cheap enough to throw away if they get especially nasty with big globs of grease or soaked with oil. The red ones make handy makeshift safety flags if you have lumber etc. hanging over the tailgate of your truck.

Microfiber towels are usually synthetic (i.e.- plastic) which sometimes melts if you're touching a hot engine with them whereas these cotton towels never melt, they work well as an insulator if you need to grab something hot similar to using a dishtowel to get something out of your oven, and these will only burn if they get over 500F which is a temp you'll never encounter during normal automotive work unless something is literally on fire and there are flames. Microfiber also isn't as good at picking up spills, especially for things like oil or grease compared to these. Microfiber is only better at absorbing water and that's only after you get the towel wet and wring it out first. A dry microfiber towel usually tends to repell most liquids until it is soaked in said liquid and wrung out which makes those more inconvenient than using a red shop towel like this which picks up most liquids/oils/grease fairly well upon first use. I just ran out of towels while changing my transmission fluid, radiator fluid, and oil last week and I had about 10 of these red towels left along with 10 Amazon microfiber towels and 10 HarborFrieght microfiber towels and I used 6 red shop towels first to soak up most of the quart of coolant I spilled, then tried to soak up the remaining 25% of the spill with 10 microfiber towels and those wouldn't absorb it without continually padding it on the spill over and over to moisten the towel enough to where it would finally want to absorb it and not repell it. Same happened with the transmission fluid I spilled which took more than double the microfiber towels to soak up the equivalent amount of liquid that the red shop towels soaked up. Microfiber towels also don't stick to grease very well so when I'm wiping excess grease off my bearings or universal joints the grease tends to not adhere and instead it falls off microfiber towels where I often drop globs of grease on the ground whereas grease really sticks to red shop towels so I don't have that problem with the red shop towels.

I like to buy these for rounding on the golf course. Throw away towels work the best to clean up clubs and wipe off golf shoes.

They have white too if that floats your boat.
I bought the red though, better for cleaning up white mess like caulk or paint.

I think so. Shop towels are great and have their place, but real cloth is usually superior. Its all about price. This seems like a good deal.

No idea why, but I got an additional 20% off because of Prime. Changed my order from 1 to 2 when I saw that at checkout. YMMV, etc.

Sweet! It's working for me as well. I'll request that the mods update to the better deal.

They've updated it now. Thanks Slickdeals Staff!

Did you use the Woot app? Its looks like its cheaper that way, I might add the app to my phone and may delete some stuff I no longer use.nod
