Ultrastar HC570 most likely with a 20% firmware speed reduction.

Neat! So probably worth the small premium over all the seagates that have been posted recently with barracudas.

Does that mean there is a way; like with the older 550 to flash retail firmware to get the full speeds after shucking?

Can you share your sources? Best I can find is a Reddit post where the alarmist OP doesn't seem to understand many basic concepts.

It's more like a 35% premium which is not small: WD 20TB for $260 vs Seagate 26TB for $250
The question is more like will you rather pay like $70 more up front and live with a <1% chance to fail every year, vs saving the money and risking 2-3% every year.

Got what? A firmware throttled drive?
Again, no reliable sources which prove that these are firmware throttled.
Did you do some type of testing which shows this to be the case?
