This 24TB BarraCuda is drawing attention for its very low cost per terabyte and strong value on paper, especially for bulk storage or RAID setups. The price has been called tempting enough to justify extra testing, and the drive is seen as roughly half the price of higher tier options. The main concern is reliability, with repeated reports of DOA units, clicking drives, and early failures, plus a two year warranty that feels short for a large hard drive. It looks best suited to light use after thorough testing.
Common Questions (5)
Several reports point to DOA units and early defects, including loud clicking and even 100 reallocated sectors on a brand-new drive. A thorough burn-in or full scan on arrival is a practical way to catch bad units before trusting them with data.
The drive carries a 2-year warranty, and some users treat that as a clue it is aimed at lighter use rather than long-term heavy workloads. Others note the shorter warranty does not automatically mean a 2-year lifespan, especially given the lower price.
At roughly $10/TB, the price is considered very attractive, and one buyer reported getting two drives for about $195 each after stacking a $75-off-$300 offer with a Venmo-linked discount. The tradeoff is that some shoppers are factoring in DOA and reliability concerns before buying.
It is being questioned for NAS use and workloads around 120TB of writes per year, with concern that it may be the wrong choice for sustained daily writes. It is viewed as more suitable for light use than for long-term heavy-write storage.
Yes. A full drive scan or burn-in test on arrival is suggested, and only the drives that pass should be kept; the rest can be exchanged or reserved as spares for RAID.

Barracuda has devolved to become Seagate's version of WD's Blue drive line. In short, good for light use, but won't hold up over the long term. The fact that they warrant the drives for only two years is an indication of the construction quality and also is reflective of how long Seagate expects them to last.
