Taxes for me is $46.25 .. it might be worth buying $600 GCs instead of $500.
Logic:
$500 GC but then you pay $46.25 in cash.

Alternate:
$600 GC then you have leftover balance of $53.75

Difference:
You paid $80 in cash instead of $46.25 but that extra $33.75 got you $53.75 in balance.

That may be great deal for a lot of people.

Here's a couple of "hacks" to save some additional money when using Nintendo GCs for eShop games.

1. While in the eShop, click on your profile settings and change your billing zip code to a state with no sales tax. I just use a random zip code from Montana. Nintendo only goes off of that zip code when you use your available eShop balance to purchase games.

2. Nintendo game vouchers can still be purchased until the end of January and can be used on some new releases like Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends Z-A.

For example, the Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4 is normally $69.99. However, by using this Costco GC deal, you could get a two-pack of game vouchers on the eShop for basically $80. You can redeem one of those vouchers for the Switch 1 version of Metroid Prime, meaning you're getting the base game for $40. Then you can buy the upgrade pack separately for $9.99. So you'd have the Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime for $49.99, a savings of $20.

You can also use vouchers in a similar manner for good savings on older titles with Switch 2 versions. For example, the Switch 2 version of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is normally $79.99. However, using this Costco GC deal, you can use a a voucher to get the base version of the game for $40, and then buy the the upgrade pack separately for $9.99, for a total of $49.99 and a $30 savings.

Man.. I was really thinking of this.. but even at $100 off, I wish this came with Donkey Kong Bonanza instead of Mario Kart World. The only game so far is truly exclusive is DK Bonanza. Mario Kart World just doesn't look that interesting from what I have seen so far. Metroid 4 Prime is next week, but is also available for the current switch (albeit with less FPS and resolution), and we don't even know if will be well reviewed or not yet. I am gonna pass this time I think until there is a better exclusive library, however I think it is a decent deal for people that do not yet have a previous switch at all. I guess I could also get the plain jane Switch 2 alone but even then I think I will wait until there are more true Switch 2 exclusives for me.
If you're going to get a Switch 2 at all I'd jump on this deal. What's the point on waiting on another possible future deal? You won't find a deal this good in the future. Nintendo already said the MKW bundle will be a limited time thing. And this year has shown that a volatile market can drive console prices UP. Even for old systems. Plus you'll lose all that time using it so get less value for your purchase if you wait. Only thing is if (when really) they release an updated version. But then I'm sure that version will be much more expensive.

What do folks think of the value of the 12 Month NSO+ Expansion Pack that you get if you purchase the Switch 2 directly from Costco? Asking as someone with zero experience with the Nintendo universe.

yea, I agree. The first switch did not really go on sale much, probably due to the pandemic. Even if it does, it's usually bundled or at a very small discount. So, a 20% discount is pretty uncommon if not unheard of. Then, with all the tariff and already increased switch 1 price, god knows if the current price will stay. One of the options is just to bank the money in the gift card to lock in the 20% off, and fingers crossed that they would announce the increase ahead of time.
Still, in general, locking money in a gift card is not the smartest choice, especially if one already plans to wait for a lengthy time to see if there would be a better bundle/upgraded machine.

Nintendo's site has the console without the added game for $50 cheaper, so you could get that and buy the game separately. You don't get the $20 game discount, but you can still use the 20% off and save pretty much the same amount vs buying it through regular means.

Switch 2 w/o game: https://www.nintendo.com/us/store...em-123669/

I personally am going to go ahead and buy $600 worth of cards so I can get another controller and have some store credit, etc.

The limit was increased to $800 USD in October.

It depends if you want the extra benefits of the Expansion pack. Note that you can buy it at $50/year with eShop Credit. It ends up being slightly cheaper with eShop credit from Nintendo. If there's no sales tax, it is $525 from Costco for the MKW Bundle with NSO+. From Nintendo, it costs $550. But if pay with eShop credit at 20% off, it's effectively $440. I suppose you'd need to buy $500 worth, so you'd have $60 left over, or it could cover the sales tax if applicable.

I think there's a good chance that 20% discounts on eShop cards may not be around much longer now that they can be used on hardware. When Apple combined their iTunes and Apple Store gift card systems, Apple gift card discounts became rarer and smaller than iTunes discounts.

I'm not willing to have unredeemed eShop codes for any appreciable length of time since there is a risk that they could be stolen. I'll make sure to redeem them all shortly, and hold up to $800 + NSO vouchers in my account.
