Nintendo won't let me use the egiftcard to buy anything other than games. A rep confirmed in the chat that this was the case....

I really hope I didn't just get stucked with 600 worth of egift cards lol

EDIT: I managed to place the order after all. I split the order into twos and it worked no problem. No idea what went on in here.

Congratulations to everyone that ordered the Switch 2 from Nintendo. Nintendo is cracking down and not letting you use the gift cards on the Switch 2 anymore.

Anyone confirm this? I was about to pull the trigger, but the GC aren't returnable, so don't want to be stuck with $400 in Nintendo GC's

Replying to my own message. I managed to place the order after all. The original order was over $800 (I had $800 in cards) I broke it into console+joy con+ memory card and then another one with the games and it worked just fine. But I 100% did tal to a Nintendo rep and they told me egift cards are only for games. I think the fact the order was over $800 messed with the system somehow

Sounds like a misinformed rep or something that hasn't gone into effect yet. I checked on my end out of curiosity since I have $5 in my account and it applied to the Switch 2.

Fun fact I found out: If you buy the switch with GCs and then load up your shop account to $800 and then cancel the order, they refund it back to your shop account and you end up with $1300+ in your account.

Just did this and my lord it was a pain in the butt. Had my first order cancelled, so contacted support and they said they needed to verify my information, and once they did told me to place the order again. After I got out of the chat, immediately cancelled again but took about 30 minutes to send me an email saying so. Had to chat with support again and they basically said  "Nothing we can do, try again tomorrow". I told them it was not acceptable and asked for a supervisor. 5 minutes later I spoke with a supervisor via chat, who ended up speaking with the order processing department, then ended up calling me on my phone, as they said they needed phone contact for confirmation, they sent me another code to my phone to verify, then told me to place the order, while we stayed on the phone. Placed it, waited 3 minutes, then I got the order approval and the codes in my inbox immediately. Was also a bit of a pain pasting all the codes into Nintendo's website, but I guess an hour of my time was worth saving $100, plus I got $8 back in costco rewards.

I just placed an order on Nintendo.com with $500 of Nintendo gift cards bought about an hour ago from Costco. $30 sales tax for me, so Switch 2 with Mario Kart bundle for $429.97. Thanks OP! And thanks for the heart attack Filou. You posted right after I received the codes lol

Taxes for me is $46.25 .. it might be worth buying $600 GCs instead of $500.Logic:$500 GC but then you pay $46.25 in cash.Alternate:$600 GC then you have leftover balance of $53.75Difference:You paid $80 in cash instead of $46.25 but that extra $33.75 got you $53.75 in balance. That may be great deal for a lot of people.
You get taxes on buying gift cards?

Here's a couple of "hacks" to save some additional money when using Nintendo GCs for eShop games.

1. While in the eShop, click on your profile settings and change your billing zip code to a state with no sales tax. I just use a random zip code from Montana. Nintendo only goes off of that zip code when you use your available eShop balance to purchase games.

2. Nintendo game vouchers can still be purchased until the end of January and can be used on some new releases like Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends Z-A.

For example, the Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4 is normally $69.99. However, by using this Costco GC deal, you could get a two-pack of game vouchers on the eShop for basically $80. You can redeem one of those vouchers for the Switch 1 version of Metroid Prime, meaning you're getting the base game for $40. Then you can buy the upgrade pack separately for $9.99. So you'd have the Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime for $49.99, a savings of $20.

You can also use vouchers in a similar manner for good savings on older titles with Switch 2 versions. For example, the Switch 2 version of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is normally $79.99. However, using this Costco GC deal, you can use a a voucher to get the base version of the game for $40, and then buy the the upgrade pack separately for $9.99, for a total of $49.99 and a $30 savings.
Well this is interesting! I'd never heard of the voucher program. I see that Tiers of the Kingdom is eligible, and I don't even have to pay for the Switch 2 Upgrade Pack as it's included with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack plan I got when I originally bought the system through Costco bundle! And for games like Metroid Prime 4, technically I'm paying $8 for the upgrade pack if I use additional gc credit from this deal. Thanks for the tip! 😎

I just placed the order now with the gift cards and it went through. So deal is still alive.

Be careful to click apply $500 credit when ordering on nintendo otherwise it will just charge the whole $499.99+ tax to your credit card and leave the $500 nintendo credits in your account which i learned later when i saw the large charge to my card. I ended up canceling the initial order and placing a new order with the credits applied, it was easy enough to do online.
