The WD Black SN850X 4TB is a fast NVMe SSD that stands out for game storage, but the current $272.79 price is above the level this drive has hit before. The drive has been bought around $249 a few months ago, around $250 as a fair target, and even around $150 in June 2023 during a much better stretch. Current pricing is being blamed on a NAND shortage and broader memory and storage demand, with expectations that SSD prices may keep climbing. A solid option if you need the capacity now and can live with today's market.

  • Shoppers who have been waiting for a lower 4TB SSD price, because the market is described as staying elevated for years.

  • Gamers needing a large library drive, because the SSD works well as game storage.

  • PC builders wanting fast NVMe storage in today's market, because the price is described as very good for current SSD pricing.

  • Deal hunters comparing against past sale prices, because the drive has been bought for around $249 to $250 before.

  • Buyers expecting a temporary markdown to stay low, because the price can jump back up again within weeks.

  • Value-focused shoppers who remember older flash-sale pricing, because the same drive was previously bought for about $70 in a Walmart deal.

Not anymore, SSD pricing in is up 25%+ and continuing to rise due to a NAND shortage and it's expected to get worse

These prices are ridiculous. Not hating on the deal. Just memory and storage right now.

You mean "I'd like to pay $250 for this drive". We won't see that kind of price for the next 3 years - Google and companies like that will gladly pay prices close to this and they buy EB and PB of storage.

We will not see price reductions until the AI boom is over. For those wanting the pricing of 2-3 years ago - the SSD makers were selling below cost (it's complicated). In addition, no new fabs are under construction - Micron will start building one of three in 2027 (to finish in 2030) - that's the next fab coming.

The cost of a new fab is over $10 billion - so not likely that new companies will get into this space.

Yea give it a couple more weeks and it will go up again.

Nand shortage and nand makers hiking prices. They have done this several times and caught several times. Yet those slaps on the wrist don't seem to be working, weird.

Keep telling yourself that. I paid $249 a few months ago.
The shortage only became more apparent around ~September. Prices should keep steadily climbing into the end of next year based on forecasts (which you can easily look up on your own). If you check DRAM prices, the sticker shock is even more apparent.

People like you said something similar in 2022...and yet, the prices have dropped that low multiple times since. It's almost like certain individuals are incentivized to get others to pay higher prices...tsk tsk tsk.
