This 75 inch Sony X95J is a bright 120 hertz Mini LED TV that stands out for sharp clarity, strong upscaling, and vivid picture quality. The anti reflective layer on the 75 inch and 85 inch models can create a rainbow effect, but it is not always distracting. The main concern is the FALD backlighting behavior, with reports of waffle like grid patterns, dirty screen effect, and issues that can show up right out of the box or later, especially in sports and gaming. Shipping and packaging on damaged box units also appears inconsistent, so condition on arrival matters a lot.

Common Questions (6)

  • Yes. Some units have arrived brand new and flawless, but others came with cooked boxes, dents, dirt, missing screen film, or visible screen damage, so the outer packaging is not a reliable indicator of condition.

  • It can show a waffle-like grid or dirty-screen effect straight out of the box, especially during sports or gaming with panning motion. The issue is tied to the FALD backlighting behavior, so if the panel is clean at delivery it may still be worth checking carefully before the return window closes.

  • The listing is treated like an as-is purchase for the TV itself, with no guarantee on the panel condition beyond what arrives. That makes inspection on delivery important, since some units have arrived perfect while others have shown screen damage or missing accessories.

  • Yes, the 75-inch and 85-inch models use an anti-reflective layer that can create a rainbow effect. It is usually most noticeable on bright content or when light hits the panel, and some owners find it minor while others find it distracting.

  • An extended warranty can make sense because some units have developed backlighting problems after years of use. The picture is still described as excellent, but long-term reliability concerns make extra coverage a practical hedge.

  • Yes, the XR75X95J is 120Hz. That makes it a better fit for gaming and motion handling than 60Hz alternatives in the same price range.

This tv is 120hz vs Best Buy LG qned deal is 60hz at 599. They have an LG at 120hz for 899
lol then you've got all these people, (it's from 2021!!!) Correct, it is from 2021 and was far ahead of its time and top of not only the Sony Bravia product line, but id say in its category with other brands at that time too. It's crazy to me they're still making TV's with Refresh Rates at 60hz - That's 95% of the Black Friday deals you see... nearly all only 60hz refresh rate.

Just a warning, I had 2 of these and out of the box, they exhibited a problem with the backlighting (waffle-like grid pattern). This was extremely horrible when watching sports or playing video games (panning left and right). This was like dirty screen effect but instead of certain areas, you had a grid like waffle pattern throughout the whole screen. If you search on avsforum and reddit, there are countless individuals who had the same problem.

Luckily, Sony was able to replace my t.v. with the newer version (X95K) which doesn't have this issue.

With the widespread complaints, this appeared to be an inherent issue with the t.v. FALD backlighting design itself. The newer models (Mini-LED) don't have this issue.
If I buy this TV and it looks perfectly fine right out of the box with no DSE, grid, or waffle-like backlight issues, is there a chance those problems could still develop later on? Thanks!

I might be misunderstanding your point, but I think that it makes plenty of sense for there to be 60hz TVs out there.

I would personally much rather have more brightness, better dimming, etc than a 120hz panel.

I'm curious like others if that if it's perfect when it arrives what are the chances of it displaying issues down the road due to it's inherent issues mentioned here?

It doesn't develop later on. Out of the box it will have this issue. This is the FALD behavior straight out of the box. If you don't watch sports or play games maybe you won't see this issue. But if you do watch sports or play games, you will definitely see this.

It's straight out of the box. The issues don't appear down the road. You will see it immediately if you watch sports or play games.

Thanks, pulled the trigger. It's replacing a low end Vizio that is starting to have the rolling screen so I am sure I'll be happy since the Vizio was good enough for me. (except that the Vizio remote also affected the electric fireplace!)

Oh, I see now. Yeah I don't think this will be an issue for me cause it will primarily be used for shows and movies. Many thanks!

I bought an X93L from this seller about a month ago, it was missing some accessories and had some very minor cosmetic damage, but was functionally perfect. Excellent TV, this one is very similar despite being older, the savings ended up working out well for me.

I've got this TV and it's being replaced for back lighting issues sadly. The picture is absolutely stunning and I got four years out of it so I'd recommend an extended warranty even with the price being so cheap. I paid $1697 originally at Costco.

No. Major props for pointing out the issue to user Swy81, but it definitely will develop down the line.. Mine was perfect, now I have waffles every day.
