I bought the Wifi 6 Linksys mesh router off Woot, a pack of two for like $30 or something. Definitely an upgrade over the router provided by my isp. Only used one node, didn't set up the 2nd node as it was enough coverage for home and decent speed.

In for one (well, a 2-pack). I got a new place and my older Orbi RBR20/RBS20 router isn't supported anymore. I've used Wyze cameras since V1, and while they can be a bit dodgy at times, at this price, I'll give 'em a try.

I still have a super solid RBR50/RBS50 pair running. I also have a ton of Wyze cams and vacuum although I'm starting to try to stay away from Wyze slowly. This is somewhat tempting for the newer technologies. I looked around on the net and the reviews are pretty mixed. At best I think this Wyze Pro router is average. Throughput doesn't seem great, range is average, options are somewhat limited. I don't know. For someone who has nothing, or a really old single router, this would probably a good improvement at a very good price. The more I think about it, I think I will pass. Wyze themselves by the way have this pair on sale for $76 right now. So the $50 really is a good price.

does this have a dedicated wireless back channel like my orbi? i'm no network expert but i've been lead to believe thats important for high speeds when your device is connected to a satellite.

Not necessarily. Theoretically, you can get higher speeds with 6GHz. However, 6GHz cannot get through walls as easily as 5GHz whose penetration is less than 2.4GHz. Unless you are in direct sight of the router or satellite you are not going to have a good connection. If you currently have WiFi 5 router, it might be better to go for WIFI 6 router (any router starting with AX).Like all technical stuff WiFi 6 does not support 6GHz (that will be 6E router) However, it does have better network technology. It will be big step up from WiFi 5 router (router starting with AC).

If you let us know what router you have currently, someone will be able help out

Considering it has 6E support, looked like a good deal. Reviews were good but it was universally mentioned that the unit gets extremely hot - scalding hot. Not good for electronics in general though the manual does mention about the fact that it gets hot.


Note also that same is available - new one cheaper on ebay

This hasn't had a firmware update in a long while. Wyze has stopped supporting them. These units also run crazy hot. So not sure how long this will last.

Nobody mentioned if this was sold by Walmart or a marketplace seller like VIP Outlet. I wonder if Walmart has it for $50 for people near a location with it in stock but $56 for VIP Outlet? Or did Walmart itself never sell this for $50 or $56?

Second I did a bit of web searching on the Wyze which is now much faster with A I. The Wyze does run hot and can only be managed through the Internet where it keeps a continously open socket with occasional keep alive packets. Fortunately it appears it's based in the US so hopefully Wyze doesn't farm their firmware out to China who is known to snoop people's data. Also Wyze firmware cannot be changed to custom router firmware so it's going to be a very basic network setup unless you make the Wyze handle wireless only and use a more capable router in control which is the only way I would ever use these.

As the first time I've ever read about mesh routers, it seems all they do is efficiently hand wireless connections to the strongest signal rather than hold onto the existing connection until it's unusable with a brief gap reconnecting to a stronger SSID. It's hard to know how much difference this will make which is why I checked it says returnable in store even if you buy from VIP Outlet.

Is it worth $7 more to be able to return it to a Walmart store than ship it? Probably even though Wyze.com says they send a prepaid shipping label. I simply have no idea how much better 2 mesh units will be than a single more powerful router for wireless.
