Have you already filled up the internal storage that comes with the system? Mario kart and donkey Kong hardly take up any space. Planning on installing another 10 or more large games at the same time? Most people won't fill up the internal storage, let alone a 256 expansion. 512 is for the extremely rare group that install 20 or 30 large games at once and refuse to ever uninstall anything.

As pointed out, you need to get the new faster standard of express cards. Look for express in the title of the card.

Switch 2 game storage sizes will generally be larger than Switch 1. Mario Kart World is 22 GB, Kirby Air Riders is 22 GB, and Metroid Prime 4 is 32 GB. It doesn't take many of those to fill up 256 GB.
