What it is:
• A lightweight, silicone-free hair oil/treatment designed to be applied to damp or dry hair.
• Main active ingredient: Argan oil (Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil) – helps smooth frizz, add shine, and protect hair from heat and environmental damage.
• Marketed as an "extra strength" version for deeper penetration and repair.
Common uses:
• As a pre-styling protector (before blow-drying or flat-ironing)
• To tame frizz and flyaways
• To add shine and softness to dry ends
• A small amount can be used as a finishing oil
Is it "clean" or does it have problematic ingredients?
This particular OGX Argan Oil is one of their cleaner, simpler formulas. The full ingredient list (current version) typically looks like this:
Cyclotetrasiloxane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Fragrance, Yellow 11 (CI 47000), Red 17 (CI 26100)
Key points:
• Contains cyclotetrasiloxane (cyclomethicone D4) – this is the one ingredient some people try to avoid. It's a silicone that's very effective at making hair silky but is classified as a potential reproductive toxin and environmental pollutant in high concentrations. The EU and Canada have restricted it in wash-off products above certain levels, and some U.S. states are phasing it out.
• The rest is fairly standard: other silicones for slip and shine, real argan oil, synthetic fragrance, and colorants.
Verdict:
It works extremely well and is very popular, but if you strictly avoid D4 (cyclotetrasiloxane) or all silicones, this isn't "clean" by those standards.
Cleaner / D4-free alternatives people often switch to:
• Pure argan oil (Josie Maran, The Ordinary, Moroccanoil Pure Argan Oil)
• Verb Ghost Oil
• Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil
• Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil (also contains some silicones but no D4)
So: great performer, but not the cleanest option in 2025 if you're avoiding cyclotetrasiloxane.
