Highly recommend getting the hub combo, you'll be saving yourself $10. It is incredibly useful. Lets you simultaneously charge your phone and hook up an external audio device.

What are some of the primary use cases for this? Is it really only if recording many videos or very long videos? Otherwise shouldn't storage would be sufficient assuming you use iCloud?

Is this mainly if you want to save photo and video directly to a SD card and bypass the iphone storage / photo library / iCloud altogether?

You need that for shooting log in certain fps. Internal memory doesn't allow certain fps for certain reasons.

Issues with iP 17. Not resolved until next year. Otherwise, a good offer.

im not the person you replied to but I have a 17pro. When I use the cold shoe mount cable that comes with this I've had a message pop up sometimes saying that the card was acting slow but that's only popped up once or twice, but it didn't affect my recordings.
Other than that I've not had a problem personally.

Edit: cold shoe mount comes with the hub
