However, since that product's weight is known (21.8lbs; which is stated on the Amazon page) as well as the dimensions (80" x 76" x 3") the density can be calculated (density = mass/volume). This would suggest that the density of this memory foam topper is 2lbs/cubic foot (PCF). A high quality memory foam density is 4 to 5 lbs PCF so this is a very very VERY low density foam topper.
For information sake, The Foam Factory sells memory foam 3" toppers with a density of 5lbs PCF and an ILR of 12 (soft) for $189 (https://www.foambymail.
If you want your foam topper to last you definitely want to choose a memory foam product that has a density of 4 or 5lbs PCF. All the beds in my house use 4" thick 5lb PCF density memory foam toppers and 5" HD36-HQ foam bases. A 5lbs PCF density memory foam topper will last 20+ years. The bases have a much lower density (2.8lbs PCF) so they typically last 10 years but are much more inexpensive vs. the topper so they can easily be replaced. The bases are also meant to provide support rather than comfort so their ILR is much higher (35). I usually recycle my old foam bed bases into dog beds by cutting them to size and purchasing a denim cover. Even using foam with a density of 2.8lbs PCF these homemade foam dog beds are way better quality and much more inexpensive then any dog bed you can purchase at your local pet store or online.
Just like anything else, it's important to know your mattress's specs to get a decent grasp of quality and longeavity. Most people think memory foam is memory foam without really understanding that they can be vastly different in the quality, comfort and longeavity that they provide.
Depending on the weight of the individuals sleeping on the bed, this product will probably last 1-2 years max before flattening out and becoming useless.

A 3" memory foam topper with a density of 5lbs PCF would have a shipping weight of around 53lbs. Due to this topper's lower density (2lbs PCF) its shipping weight is also much lower (around 22lbs).

This would seem to mean that there's a threshold between 2.8 PCF and 2 PCF where foam breaks down 5-10x faster. Is that what you're saying?
Or, are you saying that memory foam breaks down a lot faster than regular foam? In that case, if a 2 PCF topper would break down within 1-2 years, a 5 PCF topper (2.5x the density) wouldn't last 20+ years...it would last 2.5-5 years. Unless, again, you're contending that there's a threshold not far above 2 PCF where memory foam suddenly lasts 4x as long per PCF.
I can't say that threshold doesn't exist. But if it does, I'd like to understand how and why!

Secondly, the base foam, specifically the HD36-HQ foam is a totally different type of foam vs. traditional memory foam (otherwise known as viscoelastic polyurethane foam) so it is apples vs. oranges when estimating foam longeavity to PCF density when comparing traditional foam vs memory foam. The HD36-HQ foam is meant to be your foam mattress's base layer and is meant to provide overall mattress support (while the memory foam topper provides comfort).

There are other mattress bases that I have read that people choose over foam that are made of latex that provide more longeavity. They are more expensive and I personally don't have any experience using but I have read that others prefer them over HQ36-HQ foam.
In terms of longeavity of the foam base that depends on the use and weight. The more you use it and the heavier the weight of the individual(s) using the bed, the faster compression will occur on the base layer. In my experience, my HD36-HQ base has lasted 8-10 years before needing to be replaced. For me, that is two individuals around 400lbs on a king size bed. Our bed frame is a platform bed which is the best style of bed frame to use when sleeping on foam mattresses.
If you have a tradional box spring type bed frame I would lay a 3/4" thick piece of plywood down first and then lay your foam mattress on top of that to ensure you have solid support for the frame mattress across the entire span of the mattress. If you want a similar bed height of a bed using a box spring, put the box spring down first and then the plywood and then the foam mattress.
