I and hundreds of others have gotten this HD10 Slate deal before. Actually using it rn
Happy to dm pic if needed, but definitely can confirm. Also look up past Slickdeals threads and you'll see that others also confirmed. If I recall correctly, a woot representative confirmed that "Slate" color option (which isn't a valid color for the non plus version) is a plus version, in one of the earlier threads.
GLHF!

This Fire HD 10 deal stands out as a cheap large screen tablet for media, kids, comics, photo frames, and home dashboard use. The slate color variant is repeatedly confirmed as the Fire HD 10 Plus with 4GB of RAM, and Fire Toolbox or sideloaded Play Store support can make it more usable for browsing, streaming, and simple apps. The main drawback is speed, with repeated reports of sluggish performance, memory limits, and weak long term support. USB C hub charging is also problematic, and the tablet is best suited to light, mostly passive use.
Common Questions (5)
It works well for light, mostly passive tasks such as comics, downloaded media, PBS Kids, digital photo frames, and home-automation dashboards. It is slow for web browsing and interactive use, so it fits best when you mainly view content rather than multitask.
Yes, it can be hacked with Fire Toolbox and Launcher Manager, and some setups add the Play Store or a custom launcher for a more usable interface. The key caveat is to block FireOS updates before connecting to Wi‑Fi, because later updates can reduce support for these tweaks.
Yes. The Slate color models are the Fire HD 10 Plus variant and have 4GB RAM; the black 64GB model is described as 3GB. Several buyers also verified the RAM in Developer Options and on the About screen.
It is generally slow, with some users describing it as only good for one app at a time and others saying web pages reload when memory runs out. A few report it is serviceable after tweaks for media and light browsing, but it is not a strong choice if speed matters.
Not reliably. The tablet's USB-C implementation is barebones and often does not work with typical USB-C hubs for power pass-through or full data/video features, and some setups trigger a moisture-detected error. A hub that supports charging may still work for other devices, but this model is a poor fit for that use case.

if we travel i can download netflix/hbo/whatever and watch something on it, but hotel streaming is pretty common now so i dont do that much.
its crazy slow, really, one app at a time tops, in a slow way, so something you arent interacting with much is best. hard to complain for $20 if you want to monitor some wyze cameras or maybe do a photo gallery app? i dont even really want to try reading web pages on it or reddit or anything.

Good write up on the Fire Toolbox update as well, which looks like it works with even 2023/2024 models now:

You have to install a custom launcher through this method?

There was an exploit out there that allowed to block FireOS updates. It also allowed custom launcher:

If one gets a tablet from the deal, don't let it connect to WiFi, and try to block the updates.
I have a couple of them that I've put both/either on and they work excellently as single-purpose YouTube Kids players.
Although you can't root these and put something like LineageOS on them, they are pretty good values of your use case is something similar to mine.
