Answer depends almost entirely on what resolution you play at and the refresh rate of your monitor.

For example, 1080p 60hz this GPU is overkill, 4k 120hz+ even with a 5090 a lot of modern games will be GPU bound. 1080p 240hz+ is where CPU matters most.

You can also upgrade your CPU to a 5800X3D for $200, and that would eliminate virtually any CPU bottleneck.

And just as an aside, most people place way too low a priority on monitor. Unless you have poor vision, if you're running anything less than 1440p 120hz that should be your first upgrade. Night and day difference in clarity and smoothness. If you're getting this video card I would go 4k 120hz+ as it can handle all older games and almost all newer games at 4k (all newer games at 4k if you use FSR).

Those are entry level models Powercolor Reaper ($580) and Asrock Challenger ($570), these are mid-high end models that have larger-better coolers

You're incorrect, the PowerColor Reaper and Asrock Challenger are $600 and are the only 9070 XT cards available at MSRP Online recently, these two cards also available for $20 cheaper at Microcenter in store. The 9070 XT Red Devil has never been $600.

Will I get much benefit if I pair with older 3800X?

Would a Zen 7800x be good with this for 2k only gaming? I play mainly older games, do not like any new and that will probably no change.

Have a 2070 Super and Zen 3600 and still getting what I want but have some money saved up and would like a new build, my last one ever tbh
If you're only playing older games and don't plan to change your old system is probably fine, why do you want to upgrade?

If you want to play 1440p/ultra on NEW games this card would be a good choice.

A 7800x doesn't exist. Do you mean X3D? That would also be overkill even if you're looking to run older games at very high refresh rates.

RAM prices are insane right now, so if you actually are going to play newer games or you're trying to max out some of your older ones I would recommend just upgrading your current system. This video card, and a 5800X3D if you're trying to do high refresh or cache dependent games like Factorio.

My bad meant 7600x

Yeah, I was looking at my specs and what my FPS and stuff were for all the games I play and I think with a 2070 Super, Zen 3600 and 16 GB RAM, I am set for a good while. Hogwarts is the only game I wanted to try that was considered new and my rig can run it ok I think.

Monitor is 2K 144Hz. Like you recommended, I have been trying to find the 5800X3D, but haven't had any luck. Just wondering where you were able to find for $200, and I will order that along with this video card and be set for a bit. Since DDR5 is so expensive a full upgrade isn't doable.

I have a 7900XTX and was holding out hope that there would be a 9070XTX but it looks like AMD isn't going that route ever.
I have xtx (7800x3d 32gbrm)and 9070xt 9700x 32gb ram.... Xtx I play with 4k locked 130fps modified high setting bf6, 9700x/9070 is on 1440 monitor modified high settings 170fps if that helps anyone

Debating whether it's worth upgrading from my 6800 XT or not. Not because that one is necessarily lacking in raw power but obviously the FSR and better ray traying are nice. Just not sure whether I'm better off waiting for the next gen at this pt and hope my card will still hold some value by then - or whether to bite now if GPU prices are likely to climb even higher.

I'm in the same boat as you but with at 7800xt, I will probably pull the trigger on a higher end 9070 xt

I'm on a 6950 XT and debating, but came to the conclusion that getting maybe 20% gain minus FSR4 isn't likely worth the cost of entry. Everything is going to go higher priced next year, so that's the biggest reason to get it now before GDDR7/GDDR6X skyrocket in Q1 2026.

That said, the 9070 XT are more power efficient than the 6000 series and should offer a decent gain from a 6800 XT.

I own this card in white. It's been rock solid on performance, 100% stable, good temps, low fan noise under load, no coil whine. Zero regrets. Paired with an AMD 9700x and a Lian Li case with large case fans and it's a family-room friendly 1440p gaming computer that doesn't catch any side-eye when people are watching movies.

Newegg has it for $650 only $20 more than Hellhound.

I got this exact deal from Amazon offering on October 7th. You need to keep in mind that you receive 10% cash back if using Amazon Prime Visa, like I did. This makes the price $563!! In today's graphics card environment I consider this an excellent deal. The Hellhound is the mid-range of Power Color's RX 9070XT cards, with Reaper lower and Red Devil higher.
I bought this card as an upgrade when I built a new AM5 system. I also own a 6800XT and a 6700XT, and yes this card is a worthy upgrade. I play fast paced action games like Darktide on a 32" Dell QHD monitor. No complaints!!
