Answer depends almost entirely on what resolution you play at and the refresh rate of your monitor.

For example, 1080p 60hz this GPU is overkill, 4k 120hz+ even with a 5090 a lot of modern games will be GPU bound. 1080p 240hz+ is where CPU matters most.

You can also upgrade your CPU to a 5800X3D for $200, and that would eliminate virtually any CPU bottleneck.

And just as an aside, most people place way too low a priority on monitor. Unless you have poor vision, if you're running anything less than 1440p 120hz that should be your first upgrade. Night and day difference in clarity and smoothness. If you're getting this video card I would go 4k 120hz+ as it can handle all older games and almost all newer games at 4k (all newer games at 4k if you use FSR).

Those are entry level models Powercolor Reaper ($580) and Asrock Challenger ($570), these are mid-high end models that have larger-better coolers

You're incorrect, the PowerColor Reaper and Asrock Challenger are $600 and are the only 9070 XT cards available at MSRP Online recently, these two cards also available for $20 cheaper at Microcenter in store. The 9070 XT Red Devil has never been $600.

Monitor is 2K 144Hz. Like you recommended, I have been trying to find the 5800X3D, but haven't had any luck. Just wondering where you were able to find for $200, and I will order that along with this video card and be set for a bit. Since DDR5 is so expensive a full upgrade isn't doable.

Such a great deal, I bought a second one. $630 with a 10% cashback when purchased with Prime VISA card. Basically, $567 w free shipping for a factory oc model. These cards will be back to $700 and more in 2026.

Ponied up for the Sapphire nitro+. Yeah it cost more but 3 year warranty and better customer service than PowerColor. This is a good deal if you do not care.

Just got mine - was back ordered. Able to offset undervolt to -100, +10% power limit to get good oc cooling.

Thanks for the recommendation. Looks like price at the low end is $550, and is outside the US. I ordered a 5800XT for $169.99, from a local store that should get this system by until RAM prices come down.
