I agree. For some reason, desktops (even the mediocre ones) are more expensive than laptops with much better specs.

Specs include:
Graphics Card
Intel® UHD Graphics 730 with shared graphics memory
1 half-height Gen3 PCIe x16 slot
2 half-height Gen3 PCIe x1 slots

Workstation gpus that dont rely on external power can be used.

I believe the RTX 3050 6GB can be used.

Edit:
I did light gaming on an older one of these SFF and bought a radeon GPU that escapes me at the moment. It worked for me since I played old games like Warcraft and CS.

My brother upgraded his rig so I inherited his 9th gen i7 + 1070 which was still better than that old Dell SFF that I used.

There are several restrictions for upgrading the video card.
Number one. The video slot is a generation 3 half height x16 slot. You will need a half height video card or you have to do a jury rig and hang that video card out the side.
Number two: Generation 3 is going to hold you back significantly.
Number three: the power supply will not have connectors and power capacity for a good video card. You can't just upgrade a proprietary power supply. You would be required to put in a secondary external power supply to give you the extra power you need.

It will look like a real Frankenstein configuration. Someday. I might do that just for fun.

Good price. Last year it dropped to $299 for a short period. It's a nice basic desktop for email, web browsing and such. I picked up last year and ordered another Friday as a gift. Rokuten had 15% cash back and Dell 9% reward points so mine was $357 total (with monitor & speakers).

My problem is the micro form factor is a thing, albeit not the name brand ones for this price. Some of the "mini PC's" are just as powerful but with 1/4 of the footprint of this SFF.

Unless you are looking for some minimal upgrade options, I find micro desktops are good for basic home use.

I bought a ThinkCentre m75 Tiny with AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 3500GE with 512GB PCIe SSD and 8GB RAM and Win 10 Pro for around $450 in June 2020. I added an 8GB RAM stick and upgraded to 11 Pro and it has been our primary home computer for some time. It is docked with a ThinkCentre touch monitor for an AIO setup as it was purchased during COVID online season for elementary school classes. It is still being used today by my wife extensively and has been performing quite well.

During Thanksgiving last year, I got a Minisforum UM760 Slim Ryzen 5 7640HS, 1TB Kingston SSD, 16GB RAM, Win 11 Pro for around $305. Personally, I prefer this form factor over slim desktops for portability.

For slim desktops as others already mentioned, this should be at $250 price range.
