Just for the Point of Reference:

The Taj Mahal—one of the seven wonders—charges INR 50 for locals and INR 1100 for foreigners. That's 22x more for tourists! (Source: https://www.tajmahal.gov.in/ticketing.aspx)
Now, apply that logic to U.S. National Parks:
Annual pass = $80.
If foreigners paid 22x more, that'd be $1,760!
A little perspective helps. Not everything is racist or xenophobic—sometimes it's just how pricing works. My Two Cents.

You must not travel. I went to Singapore on vacation with my family and did a few museums, all of which had admission fee and/or increased rates for foreigners versus citizens. Here is an example:

The difference is that the minimum wage in India is around $1 compared to $7 in the US. Both those prices for the Taj Mahal, are eminently affordable to their respective audiences. The US is already an expensive tourist destination and increasing prices just as a FU to foreigners is going to have an impact - and let's face it, that's what this action is doing. The pricing that existed generated lots of visitors and made the NPS lots of money as it was.Pricing isn't made in a vacuum, it's defined by elasticity and most countries optimize tourist fees to maximize the impact to the overall economy such as resort taxes, sales taxes etc. not this short sighted attitude.I did consumer pricing optimization for close to a decade.
Isn't that why Vegas is so empty now? Prices were always high, so it could not have been that. Foreigners just stopped coming.

"Trump's birthday".. really?

Edit: I am not attempting to get political. I am genuinely curious if it is normal to see current sitting president's bday to be notes/used for free admission days.
Both MLK and Juneteeth that were free in the past have been removed. Guess they're too 'woke'. Also National Park Week and other outdoor dates.

Let's not use the UAE as a benchmark for promoting awareness of nature, or human rights, or anything that is actually common good for humanity and nature.
Quote from George_P_Burdell :
This is true. Even UAE charged me 20% extra for most tourist attractions. Sometimes double.
THAT said, to the person that asked about why it's not okay for citizens to get discount, I don't know if there's an easy way to verify if someone is a citizen (DL and state ID can be issued to permanent residents too) and the funding cuts to National Park program has impacted staffing so adding this overhead I am not sure if there is enough visiting "foreigners" to make up for it.

Either way, personally I try to avoid the "free" national park days because the hours of line and crowds aren't worth it to me, but appreciate the post and I hope ppl do take advantage of it.

Flag Day while not generally a celebrated holiday, existed long before Trump.

INR 50 = 56 cents in USD for those that need context.

Your world view is narrow. Visit England. All of their major museums are free regardless of where you were born.
That's because it would be wrong to charge foreign guests to see their relics brought from their home country! 😂

Nice! I got in free to three National Parks during the shutdown. It was great. More free days please!
It never made sense to me as to why to shut down a revenue source during a shutdown. Not to mention the damage that's done to some parks when they're not staffed.
