I just sold my house and now want to pay off the mortgage on the house I purchased 2 months ago. I think it is just a matter of going online and getting the payoff amount then since my checking account is with Chase just do an electronic payment of 500K ? Anyone pay off a loan from name bank as checking account?
Do I need to do a wire transfer from Chase to Chase, or even dumber go to the bank and get a cashiers check for 500K then turn around and hand it to them to pay off my loan?

You likely have to talk to the loan officer and get the final amount for the day you want to pay it off (to confirm it matches whatever is online) and they should be able to tell you what payment method\process to use. When I did it a number of years ago, I had to write them a paper check for the amount on that day in question (local bank). I am sure by now they would have some electronic transfer or worse case you could wire it and ask them to waive the fee.

Well I wanted to get it done last night and there was no way for me to contact anyone so I made the December payment then added 450K to the additional amount the system did not reject it. I could get the payoff amount online without talking to anyone. My job does not allow me access to my cell phone during work hours and I cannot log only my bank from work either. Phone is also very limited so will have to wait until I can take a break at luinch to check my phone and see what it says.

So I checked today and no one probably cares but when I called they said they usually prefer a wire transfer. I said why would I wire transfer from Chase to Chase?
She agreed and said she could see the funds and the amount was correct. Next day I check my account and there are 5 payments on 99,999.00 I guess the system cannot handle more than 5 digits, as of today the remainder of the amount after 500k was paid shows as remaining but funded so hopefully tomorrow it will be at zero!

You would have thought that they could have just done a wire transfer for the whole amount and waived their fee, but I guess they thought doing it this way was easier than getting approval to waive\reimburse a minor fee lol.

One other thing to note I am sure Chase has gotten a bad rap in the past but for us they were great in the Mortgage process as well as with the payoff help.
