My least favorite intel CPU generation. Get ones with efficiency cores for more speed and better battery life.

Totally agree on this. The laptop is generally decent, but CPU sucks. One can find similar options on ebay at 150$, so $280 here is not really a deal.

Refurb options or just used? I've had luck with reputable ebay vendors for refurbs but I'm having trouble finding ahead of Christmas now. I missed the $190 deal a week ago but idk how that AMD cpu scaled anyway.

Just put a list of decent CPUs into the search which would not lead you to a expensive options, like "(i7-1365U,4750U,i5-1345U,5650U,4650U)" (put this as a keyword, without quotes), add your filters (refab, 16GB+, etc) and you get $200 options right now. For $150 you would normally need to monitor ebay for some time and maybe play bidding game. Expand the CPU list if needed. You can compare CPUs for example at https://technical.city/en/cpu/Cor...n-7-7840HS

A refurb of a new model is a repaired return. A refurb of an old model is just a used machine that's been wiped down and been checked to be working. In other words, used and refurbed are often synonymous.

They used these at my work for a while. A lot of complaints with them. I think I am the only one still using one. Its decent enough. The real big bonus is that they are the largest flip laptops that will fit in the screen holder on American Airlines planes.

The 11 series was an actual downgrade from the 10 series in multiple ways. The iGPU was better, but almost everything else was worse. They couldn't even produce a 6-core version of their ultrabook processors.

I had a 10th gen before, and now a 12th. It's so much better than the 10th in every way. That said, my next laptop CPU may be snapdragon if I can get away with it.
