It's worth noting this isn't the same as typical fiber internet - it's "fiber-powered". Namely, from their own details,
Xfinity Internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable
One drawback to this is upload and download speeds are not symmetric - the headline advertised speed is the download speed, but upload speeds are typically significantly lower. For example, looking at the Broadband Facts of the 1 Gig plan in my area, they specify typical download speed at 1170 mbps and typical upload speed at 117 mbps. In the past in different areas, I've seen advertised typical upload speeds as low as 20-40 mbps.

That may be perfectly fine for many people, in which case this is a good deal. But make sure to take a look at the upload speed for your area and confirm that it's fast enough for your needs.

Yes don't log in initially, then look up your address, then choose I'm moving here as a new subscriber. Then contie towards the end and on the screen where it has you sign up for an account, choose login instead. But make sure you cancel your old account, and return equipment. Otherwise you'll be billed for two accounts concurrent.

I'm a current customer and my plan has that bank autopay discount too. But I can still manually pay with a credit card every month, with no surcharge, and the discount remains.

This plan is $50, but you need to subscribe to the mobile plan, which is $40.

Your total bill is $90, if you will cancel your mobile, your internet bill will become $75.

If you are already getting $80-85 for 5 years, I dont know if it is worth all the trouble to do anything at all with Xfinity.

Their customer service is the worse in the universe.

Did it last year with no issues. Except I had to call to cancel the second account. They were confused on how I had two. But they knew they had to cancel one. And signed up this time the same way.
How exactly did you do it was it under different name and email then you waited for equipment before cancelling first service?

I was able to decline the "free" mobile line and get the stated price.

Quantum Fiber's customer service somehow manages to be worse, believe it or not. One major reason I don't use them despite having fiber installed to my home.

Declining doesn't mean you won't pay, just means you're turning down that service, which will activate the part of the contract where you'll pay more than $50. It's part of the promotion and in the contract. They give you 90 days to activate the mobile, so you likely won't see the charge for the first 3 months.

My final bill is $50 and change for taxes. There's no $40 mobile plan involved in my region.

ETA: I've confirmed there's no requirement to activate the mobile line. My contract, terms of the promo and all relevant paperwork do not require activating the free line. And I won't. Your region may vary.

I've been through this dance before and never paid a dime extra for declining the mobile line.

The Xfinity Mobile line is only "free" (I paid $7.xx in taxes/fees every month for my free line) for the first year after which the price goes to $40/month + taxes/fees just for mobile if you keep it.

The price for internet is supposedly guaranteed for 5 years but I assume that's only if you keep the mobile line. If you cancel the mobile line after the free year, does the price for the internet plan go to $110/month? If you never even activate the free mobile line in the first place, does that enable you to keep your promotion price for the 5 years?

Confirmed via chat, you do NOT need to activate the mobile line to get the offer.

I asked, "so it won't cost more if I don't activate the account"

They responded, "exactly - we just have to not activate it in the 90 days and it falls"

Now through Dec. 21, new customers can get the most reliable, fiber-powered Gig WiFi for just $50/month for five years. Plus, WiFi equipment, unlimited data, Peacock Premium for two years, and an Unlimited mobile line for a year are included.

Agreed - I am a current customer & was able to avail this offer by not logging in initially. I logged in only when they asked to create an account. Now, I'm just curious on when does the new service activate & when should I cancel my existing service.

well, this is interesting. I login my account and click on change speed, and they are offering this to me without closing my current account and what not. I don't really need their gateway as I have my own modem and super duper router. I have a feeling their hardware is just another way to see what you are doing. also, i do not see anywhere where there is a data cap with own devices.
