It's worth noting this isn't the same as typical fiber internet - it's "fiber-powered". Namely, from their own details,
Xfinity Internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable
One drawback to this is upload and download speeds are not symmetric - the headline advertised speed is the download speed, but upload speeds are typically significantly lower. For example, looking at the Broadband Facts of the 1 Gig plan in my area, they specify typical download speed at 1170 mbps and typical upload speed at 117 mbps. In the past in different areas, I've seen advertised typical upload speeds as low as 20-40 mbps.

That may be perfectly fine for many people, in which case this is a good deal. But make sure to take a look at the upload speed for your area and confirm that it's fast enough for your needs.

Yes don't log in initially, then look up your address, then choose I'm moving here as a new subscriber. Then contie towards the end and on the screen where it has you sign up for an account, choose login instead. But make sure you cancel your old account, and return equipment. Otherwise you'll be billed for two accounts concurrent.

I'm a current customer and my plan has that bank autopay discount too. But I can still manually pay with a credit card every month, with no surcharge, and the discount remains.

Just contact Xfinity, you WILL LOSE unlimited data if you choose 'I'll use my own equipment' during the check out. And you MAY eligible for unlimited data if you got their equipment and just keep use your own equipment
I tried that trick a few years ago (left their modem on the shelf) -- they took away all of the benefits associated with using their modem. Not sure if it's different now.

I'm paying over $90/mo for 400mbps after the teaser rate expired. I used to just threaten to cancel and they offer whatever their current rate is, but that's not worked the past couple times. Such bs.
that stopped working a few years ago, and their customer service is horrible, finally i left for fiber. Once I actually left they started trying to get me back with discounts

Did the same thing with same result (I contacted them thru chat when I got error message after submitting order). Then, I hit back button on error page, submitted again and it went thru. Modem already shipped, will be delivered tomorrow.
do you see the $50 plan listed after you login to your account?

or did you choose "No, I am moving here as an existing customer." or "No, I am moving here as a new customer."?

Be careful with making a new account. They will send you an e-mail telling you they auto-cancel your old account if you do the new account method, but sometimes they won't really cancel it. I did this method before and got the cancelation e-mail for the old account automatically from them saying they would cancel the old account, but realized 3 months later they were still charging the old account. I called them up and they said there was never a cancelation request, but a move service request, which I never requested.

Their bill statements say "You have 120 days from the date of this bill to dispute any charges included on this bill.". So make sure you keep an eye on your payment methods, as I caught it right before the deadline to dispute.
is the new account & old account under same name?

I did the same thing like yours. New account showing will ship the kit, received two emails mentioned service cancellation for the old account, but no last service date.
did you receive a call from Xfinity asking to confirm before they cancel your old account?

You can use your own modem. Their modem is free and my existing modem is too old to support 1GB speed.
If you use their modem, you could be a human-miner for Xfinity. you know mining, right?

Wait! How does this worK? I followed the steps and signed up for new plan. I did get the new order id. Then my internet temporarily disconnected and I had to restart modem to get it back. Then I clicked on "Create Xfinity ID" and provided details, it automatically sensed I have an account and prompted to login. Upon login, I only see my old plan

You don't create a new id, on that page instead click the login link at the top instead of creating a new Xfinity account. Start fresh but make sure you log out first

I switch names between me and my spouse every year and the current subscriber got cancelled automatically because I don't use their equipment. I don't call in to cancel. It's a PIA to talk to these xfinity customer agent.
Hey I use my own equipment as well and went through the process. Did not change the names, but was able to select "new customer move" and get a new order id. Now when I login to my account, I still see the old details. I did experience a brief connection pause and restored after restarting modem..

That scenario sounds like SOP for these things. The customer retention route might be worth a shot. Call and tell them you want to cancel. It's a phone call that might save you some time and hassle
Oh, dont. The customer retention route is just a - Waste customer's time line. They will waste an hour of your time and then say we dont have that deal at the moment. Basically stating we can only offer you what is out there online. I confronted them on that - well, if you can only offer what is available online, then what the heck is the purpose of this department?? Customers can switch to one of the "deals" online themselves, why call them? To what she couldnt come up with a response

Moral of the story, if you can do it online go for it, otherwise dont bother, you'll just end up wasting your time and frustrated

I wasnt interested in this $50 plan. I have had $25 plan for 400mb for years until recently they doubled my rate without notice. I was promised it will be extended by CS, but they never honored the promise. I was calling to reinstate the $25 plan. It ended up to be a waste of time. So, I just switched to this plan.

For those who managed to keep that $25 plan (how?? Do share), hold onto it. 300-400mb is more than enough and that 1-year mobile plan is included with every plan. This thread is misleading pushing 1-year mobile as something specific to this deal. It is not

Sounds interesting! But where do you see those $200 (or $100 for slow plans) gift cards? I can't locate that offer for 1-year
Maybe it varies by location. I put in an address that I know recently got fiber installed in their area. Here's the 1-year offer page with the GCs at the bottom.

I placed the order with selection of use my own equipment and no mobile line. It shows unlimited data in the order confirmation, let's see what happens later.

Existing customer here and used your route, but got denied; been with them for over slightly 15yrs, they said they couldn't find that offer for me. I might have to disconnect and reconnect cause the online option isn't working (getting stuck on a validate identity page).
Just an update, I tried their live chat option while the $50 plan is in my cart, and somehow the rep was able to add it with my existing Xfinity profile. Thanks op!
