It's worth noting this isn't the same as typical fiber internet - it's "fiber-powered". Namely, from their own details,
Xfinity Internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable
One drawback to this is upload and download speeds are not symmetric - the headline advertised speed is the download speed, but upload speeds are typically significantly lower. For example, looking at the Broadband Facts of the 1 Gig plan in my area, they specify typical download speed at 1170 mbps and typical upload speed at 117 mbps. In the past in different areas, I've seen advertised typical upload speeds as low as 20-40 mbps.

That may be perfectly fine for many people, in which case this is a good deal. But make sure to take a look at the upload speed for your area and confirm that it's fast enough for your needs.

Yes don't log in initially, then look up your address, then choose I'm moving here as a new subscriber. Then contie towards the end and on the screen where it has you sign up for an account, choose login instead. But make sure you cancel your old account, and return equipment. Otherwise you'll be billed for two accounts concurrent.

I'm a current customer and my plan has that bank autopay discount too. But I can still manually pay with a credit card every month, with no surcharge, and the discount remains.

No, but that potentially requires using their modem, which among other things also provides a public wifi hotspot. When their support could not get their modem activated on my line, my service went back to capped. My 3rd party modem works great, delivering consistent speed a little higher than what my plan promises.
You can turn off the hotspot

System is forcing professional installation with $0.00 cost. How to get self install?
Did you have Xfinity earlier at your place for self-installation?
Some locations might need adding cables, pulling connection from nearby addresses if your address does not already have Xfinity.

I am so glad I got away from these vampires last year. Now I pay $49.99 for 10gig up/down no data caps. To be fair the best I've seen in a speed test is 7.9gb up and 8.6gb down but still. I also needed all new equipment lol
10gig $49.99 care to share details?

Like someone said, it is possible they know something "outside" your home is unplug and need installer to come "plug" it back. Even for some people that able to get self install, if they haven't use Xfinity recently, it is possible some other installer may have unplug something in the outside box for your home and need to reconnect them. So your self install won't work and eventually have to schedule a professional installation later.

for those who chose self installation with own modem, how long did you take to activate the new plan?
I couldn't do it on my own from the app as it said something went wrong and asked me to contact support team. I had to call activation team and they're helping me do it now as they need to disconnect the modem from previous account to activate the new account.

For anyone that is already a customer, all you have to do is create a new account under the same address as a new customer. Then your old account will automatically be canceled.

Here's an easier list to parse, its from 2024, so not sure if they have updated it (seems to match from a brief glance), but its from the xfinity reps on reddit, you'll want a modem out of the top section, the codas are the cheapest. https://assets.xfinity.com/assets...evices.pdf

Personally I don't see a point in buying a modem anymore since they give them to you for free, and you can put it in bridge mode and turn of the public wifi.
When you say put the Xfinity modem/router in bridge mode, do you mean to say have it attached first with the line from outside with public wifi off, and then attach it to my personal router?

I'm asking because I use Orbi router with its sattelites, which serve me as local ethernet connections when needed in the different corners of the house. I am unsure how good the Xfinity gateway modem/router is going to be if I won't have ethernet connections where wifi signals are really low in the corners of the house.

Under the same email?

If I use my wife's name for the new account, how will my current account be canceled automatically?
