For most people, the free device is perfectly fine. But putting the modem in bridge mode & turning off public wifi are still subject to their firmware updating and resetting the device back to defaults. I don't want that. And yes, i'm fully aware they control the firmware (again, been in this space for 15+ years now).

Interesting, so then they've decided to play the "up to 100mbps" speeds for mid-splits instead of gathering information from the headend where they can display actual speeds per home when you're signing up. I'm mid-split, and i'm 100mbps max, but i'm also not a test market where they'd trial the higher upload speeds so that would explain why some get it and some don't. But guessing from a marketing standpoint, they can only claim "up to 100mbps" where available. Even their modem page says this.

There isn't, that's not how this provisioning stuff works. The headend and node setup requires you to either have it turned on or off, that's it. If your house and the one next to you are on the same node, they can't have different provisioning rules. If someone told you you were in say a mid-split market but you weren't getting those speeds, someone told you the wrong info, likely a dweeb on the CS side who just wants to sell and get you off the phone/out of the store. I've been lied to before, then get to level 2 tech and get all the correct info.

XFi Complete is a service code, not a service tier. Completely different things. They used to only offer unlimited data, advanced security, prioritized network (yes, that's a thing) and so on to the upper tier customers who paid the extra $30 for XFi Complete but that was all managed by service codes.

Correct, because zip codes can cover many different franchises (my zip alone covers more than 8 different franchises, and at my company one zip can cover well over 20). In order to know for sure, it has to be based on the address. My neighborhood was turned on to mid-split earlier this year but the neighborhood across the main street was not. Same zip, same headend, different franchise and different serviceable codes. Again, CS not the place to get this information. level 2 tech support, yes. And all of this is either turn on or off for your house, no grey.

15+ years, never seen any cable company do it.

Correct, xfi complete was an upgraded service code over their base gateway where it included everything I mentioned above. If you had that and used your own modem, you lost the benefits. They and other companies have since moved away from that and now offer unlimited data as a separate service code that can be applied regardless of device used. Any of the newest offers they've put out in the last year or two are like this and you can upgrade to them as long as you don't have some weird legacy codes that prevent it. for example, I got a new 'contract' last year without unlimited data and this year went in and re-did my services to get it. Price went down $20, no fees, unlimited data active on my account, still using my own modem.

Already explained this twice, xfi complete was separate and completely different than today's offerings.

My advice to everyone, go negotiate your services at least once a year when new offerings come out and see what they offer. It's stupid, but the rate at which Comcast is struggling to keep up with the changing times is asinine. Again, said it numerous times already, been in this industry 15+ years and have seen a lot. Comcast is very much behind in the times with certain aspects of their business and they're struggling to keep up. They got caught wiht their pants down thinking "we're a monopoly with no real competition" and now that's not true in a good part of the nation and they're scrambling to setup proper retention, loyalty, and value statements for their base.
on their 1.2.GB $25 plan for almost 2 years. wondering if i can extend the same for another 5 years?

The new bill was sent to me on 12/9/2025 and due date on 12/31/2025 for the old account for services from 12/14/2025 - 1/13/2026.

Xfinity is the only company that bills you for services for the next month. My utilities and water bills are billed to me AFTER usage.

So now I have 2 xfinity accounts with 2 bills ($65.00) and ($50.00) and I already had submitted a request to have the old account cancelled.

.
Looking at your comment of being billed for next month, I called up Xfinity regarding cancelation of old account (even though I got had my old account apparently canceled on activating modem for new account).

I also use my own equipment and didn't have anything to return. I was told I would be refunded the entire future amount of $64 they just billed past my original cancelation date on 07Dec.

I would attempt to get that in writing if possible, otherwise go into local office if that is an option. I have found that call/chat will tell you whatever you want to hear to end the call.Don't get me wrong, I am a 34+ year Diamond customer with various plans/equipment over years, and have stuck with them because of stability and no other provider options. I worked remotely from home for 24 years, stability was critical, and personal for 10 years prior. I had a few minor blips over the years, nothing big. Biggest issue was 2 day downtime when Comcast cut out 40' of my coax years ago when working on neighbor, thinking mine was an old unused line. They had to re-bury new line.Fiber became available a few years ago, I have not changed yet and don't anticipate doing that unless something drastically changes, stability has been great for me.

FYI, my personal experience. Signed up using the "use my current account login" method. The signup forced me to pick "professional installation". There wasn't a "self install" option. Also got the $100 gift card offer.
I chatted w/ online support to cancel the professional install and change to a self install. That was a mistake. Unfortunately, the rep cancelled "both" my current account and the newly created account. 2 hrs later, 1 chat rep and 6 phone reps, the 5th rep converted my current account to the "1000/1000 5 yr offer". Unfortunately, that resulted in losing the GC offer as that was tied to the new account that was cancelled. The 5th rep forwarded me to some other division and said they could reinstate the GC. 6th rep couldn't help, said his supervisor said I need to go into a store. I assume he was just trying to get of me...

I probably wouldn't push hard for the $100 GC given that you're technically not a new subscriber. I signed up the same way and don't see the GC either despite using the code

EDIT: Just got an email informing that it's pending

The rep at the Xfinity store who helped me with cancelling my old account worked really hard to keep the $100 gift card on my new account. I wanted to keep using my equipment which required making some changes to my new account. I supposedly still have the $100 gift card on my new account.

Pretty sure it's 30 days max, that's the shortest I've gone to test it out.

That is what I was thinking. My only other option at this point, is go the route of creating a "new" account, then cancelling my current account. But, I don't think it's worth that hassle for a $100 GC.
The only other difference, is that I didn't get a new XB8 modem. I'm still using the XB7 I currently have/had.

I just got my modem in the mail and it's the XB6 (signs that it's used).... boo. Any chances I can go in store and trade to a newer one? Will it make a difference having a xb6 vs xb8?

xb6 is wif5 and generally given to customers on 300Mbps tier. If you are going to be using the router in the XB6 it definitely will be a difference.
If you have ordered 1Gbps you should certainly be eligible for XB8

You don't get it immediately. The last promotion they ran had a $50 gift card and they randomly e-mailed it to me 3 months later. I think they do this to prevent people singing up and canceling immediately just to get the promotion gift card. You might be able to track it here, but I think it can take up to 30 days to even show up in the database - https://www.xfinityincentivetracker.com/track

Unrelated, but I signed up for the same package a few months back under wifes name. We got about 200mbps above the advertised download speed (1.2gbps), but the upload speed was way below. They advertised 120mbps upload, but we could only ever get around 40mbps and techs said it was a limitation of the area and line. Signed up for the new promo and now getting the full 120mbps upload speed, despite doing nothing different. It's all my own equipment, same stuff as last package promo.

As for the service, it's always been rock solid for me for 4-5 years I've been using them. We always get above the advertised download speed with no caps. The 1gig line is kind of useless, unless you do big downloads. I've had the 100mbps, 300mbps, 600mbps and now the 1gig package over the years. There's literally no difference in browsing speed, streaming, page load times, etc. The higher speeds are only good if you download large files often, like Steam games that are 20gb+ in size, or have a lot of people streaming at once. The 300mbps package is more than enough to handle 2-3 people streaming at once in HD and still be able to browse comfortably at the same time and still have headroom left over. A 1080p YouTube stream takes about 5-6mbps.

If you're tight on a budget, take advantage of the lower tiered speed package promos that go all the way down to 100mbps for $30/month, which is more than enough if you're single and just browse/stream. They even have a special package called Internet Essentials for $15/month for 75mbps, but you have to qualify based on a few types of gov assistance for the $15 package, just google xfinity essentials. Keep in mind, most areas you'll get slightly over the advertised download speeds. All the packages I've had that I've listed above always got faster download speeds than advertised.

My store won't give out xb8 if you are on 300mbps plan, I tried previously. I have an xb7 now which I think is more stable than the xb6. I don't know if they will give out xb7 but that may be an option if they won't give you an xb8. Xb7 works fine on gigabit as well, I'm using it with that now.

so I am currently paying $29.99 per month for Fios 300 UP and 300 Down. I do not game online and having faster speeds has zero effect on my daily life.

And I don't need any streaming serves... for I only steam 4k or 1080P using unethical websites where I do see any commercials.
