It's worth noting this isn't the same as typical fiber internet - it's "fiber-powered". Namely, from their own details,
Xfinity Internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable
One drawback to this is upload and download speeds are not symmetric - the headline advertised speed is the download speed, but upload speeds are typically significantly lower. For example, looking at the Broadband Facts of the 1 Gig plan in my area, they specify typical download speed at 1170 mbps and typical upload speed at 117 mbps. In the past in different areas, I've seen advertised typical upload speeds as low as 20-40 mbps.

That may be perfectly fine for many people, in which case this is a good deal. But make sure to take a look at the upload speed for your area and confirm that it's fast enough for your needs.

Yes don't log in initially, then look up your address, then choose I'm moving here as a new subscriber. Then contie towards the end and on the screen where it has you sign up for an account, choose login instead. But make sure you cancel your old account, and return equipment. Otherwise you'll be billed for two accounts concurrent.

I'm a current customer and my plan has that bank autopay discount too. But I can still manually pay with a credit card every month, with no surcharge, and the discount remains.

They were waived actually. Install was done a week ago today.
Super helpful, was chat service able to waive it or did you have to request it later ?

Online, it says free installation for me, but I know I need a physical line connection that a technician would have to do.

Can you use your own router with XFinity or do you have to rent theirs -- even if it's no extra charge?
They give you a modem/router combo gateway for free -- you can:

** use their gateway as modem and router
** turn their gateway into bridge mode so it acts as a modem only then you can connect your own router (which is what I did)
** use your own modem and router

Use their app or online account to turn off public hotspot on their gateway -- also turn on admin tool online access so you can access gateway/modem settings using your browser

The easiest way to get this deal as a current customer is to just go through the entire process as a new customer, with all the same credentials, and then sign in at the end vs create a new account. It will then ask you to merge accounts, and once the order is completed support will give you a call to get the cancellation of your now former account in motion. Once you get the modem in the mail, if you're not using your own, and activate your new account give CS a call and set the cancellation to be effective immediately.

SB6190 is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and it supports up to 800 Mbps only. You will do better with the xfinity modem for sure as long it's a DOCSIS 3.1 or better.

Earlier this year, unrelated to this deal, I had SB6190. It was acting up and not working consistently. It was partly due to faulty cable running to my house. Xfinity customer service kept on asking me to upgrade my modem. I bought Hitron Coda56 that can do 2.4 GBps. I was on 150 Mbps and I thought it was an overkill. However to my surprise. my upload speed got a tremendous boost. I used to get 170+ download speed and 20+ upload speed. After switching my modem to Hitron Coda56, my upload speed jumped to 170+ Mbps same as my download speed.

** Another option is to create a DMZ for your existing router confg. I put my DECO X60 mesh (used only for IOT/untrusted devices and visitor traffic) back in service this way to eliminate the double nat (which is neglible anyways). Had it previously in a DMZ via my opnsense box, but I thought "why leave that in the mix for opnsense to manage that traffic unnecessarily," so I moved it directly to the gateway. Works fine and it cannot touch my private lan.

Someone should definitely report that to the FCC that is very misleading.

Their new customer definition is very loose. You will see from this thread that even existing customer have been able to with the same info as before jumping through some hoops or in other cases by using another name, phone, email address.

You should have no problem

I am existing customer and went through the steps mentioned before saying
1. I am moving to this address
2 going through all the steps to order until the last steps when

a. either sign in
or
b. provide last name, first name, email, phone

When I signed in with my existing xfinity credentials, I see that my bank info etc. is brought in automatically but once I click submit my order. I got the message something went wrong, contact customer service ....
Then I used my name, a different phone number and gmai id with the + hack [email protected]. This time the order went through; I now have to login with the new credentials though.
Hopefully I don't end with two new orders. You can never be sure with xfinity

They charged me $50 for the tech to come and install modem at my house. They also charged $25 activation fee for the free 1 cellular line. None of those were waived.
