It's worth noting this isn't the same as typical fiber internet - it's "fiber-powered". Namely, from their own details,
Xfinity Internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable
One drawback to this is upload and download speeds are not symmetric - the headline advertised speed is the download speed, but upload speeds are typically significantly lower. For example, looking at the Broadband Facts of the 1 Gig plan in my area, they specify typical download speed at 1170 mbps and typical upload speed at 117 mbps. In the past in different areas, I've seen advertised typical upload speeds as low as 20-40 mbps.

That may be perfectly fine for many people, in which case this is a good deal. But make sure to take a look at the upload speed for your area and confirm that it's fast enough for your needs.

Yes don't log in initially, then look up your address, then choose I'm moving here as a new subscriber. Then contie towards the end and on the screen where it has you sign up for an account, choose login instead. But make sure you cancel your old account, and return equipment. Otherwise you'll be billed for two accounts concurrent.

I'm a current customer and my plan has that bank autopay discount too. But I can still manually pay with a credit card every month, with no surcharge, and the discount remains.

Well about a month ago I was duped by a customer service type into thinking I was getting a good deal. My 3 year "contract" of 1.2g @ $89 was expiring, and I got a new bill of $135. I called and they offered me an 800mb plan at $85. Their best offer so he said. Well, I am a 77 year old senior and like a dope I believed him and took the deal. Our internet noticeably slowed down, but we were saving a whole $4. Unfortunately, the only other option was TMobile 5G home internet which I tried for 3 months. However, it was all over the place with slow speeds, then fast speeds, then no speeds from random disconnects. I canceled that and had to go through the hassle of returning the modem/router - another off-topic horror story I'll skip.Anyway, Xfinity it is as my only option, and I am closely reading this thread to see if there is anything I can do to improve my speed and/or cost. Thanks for the posts.
Apply with for a new account with your spouses name if you have one. I just did this with my wife. MC50 code at checkout for a $50 mastercard gift.

Has anyone cancelled their account and opened up a new one? I'm concerned about downtime. How fast can you get the service back up and running?

For existing customers, you don't need to create a new account, you don't have to cancel old account. Simply go to the offer, log in, change plans, and select this plan and go through the order procedures. Xfinity has simplified changing plans. I have done this in the past and just did it today. Was paying $65 for 1 gig, now my next bill estimate is showing up as $50. Again no cancelling is required, no equipment return required, simply login to your account and change plan.
Doesnt alway work. Im on a 600mb promo for $50. My only option was $85 for 1gb.

This says it includes equipment. If I bring my own, do I get to pay $15 less? We have xfinity right now. the promo discounts are on the internet. None on the equipment part. $45 total in the end for 800mps.
At 1gb+ the modem/wifi router is free. Read the bullet points, it's included now Smilie

You don't have to activate the mobile line for the $50/month price. I would recommend you do not. You do have to do the autopay and paperless billing, otherwise your bill will be $60/month. And I'd highly recommend using your own equipment (modem and router) and not theirs if possible.

well, this is interesting. I login my account and click on change speed, and they are offering this to me without closing my current account and what not. I don't really need their gateway as I have my own modem and super duper router. I have a feeling their hardware is just another way to see what you are doing. also, i do not see anywhere where there is a data cap with own devices.
I had just signed up for $65 a couple days ago and also had this offer for $50 so switched to it.

And dammit I forgot about the MC50 code but oh well. Still much better price than what I've been paying.

I'm paying over $90/mo for 400mbps after the teaser rate expired. I used to just threaten to cancel and they offer whatever their current rate is, but that's not worked the past couple times. Such bs.

You can talk to the customer service and they will apply this to your order. Worked for me.

Agreed - I am a current customer & was able to avail this offer by not logging in initially. I logged in only when they asked to create an account. Now, I'm just curious on when does the new service activate & when should I cancel my existing service.
Did they add an extra $15 fee at checkout?

Just called and they said new customers only.
You could be a new customer. Just sign up a new account with your wife or your dogs name and cancel your current account. You just need to tell them you move out and let your wife to use all your current equipment. I do this almost every year to stay as a new customer. 🤣

This company is terrible by the way - can't handle billing right - Peacock Premium does not work - have had activation issues with them for a while - just canceled and that was a nightmare

Signed up in October due to DSL being canceled in my area for the $65/5 years 1GB plan. Had to do professional install which wasn't until mid-October. Followed instructions on here with the "new customer-then-login" plan. Got email saying ID is now linked to another account and see 2 in my account. Hopefully cancelling the old service is smooth once new modem gets here. $15 off for 5 years is a nice chunk of change.
