Xfinity Internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable
One drawback to this is upload and download speeds are not symmetric - the headline advertised speed is the download speed, but upload speeds are typically significantly lower. For example, looking at the Broadband Facts of the 1 Gig plan in my area, they specify typical download speed at 1170 mbps and typical upload speed at 117 mbps. In the past in different areas, I've seen advertised typical upload speeds as low as 20-40 mbps.
That may be perfectly fine for many people, in which case this is a good deal. But make sure to take a look at the upload speed for your area and confirm that it's fast enough for your needs.

As an excising customer on 600mbps plan I could upgrade to 2Gb plan at $115 only.. , no other options were available for me to choose from.
Called CS and requested immediate cancelation. Used my iphone to create new customer account ( new email address and misspelled my last name lol) Also used MC50 promo code during checkout - $50 gift card.
Waited 15 minutes then activated my own modem (free XBR xfinity gateway will be shipped later this week., don't need it but nice to have as a backup)
All in all took ~40 minutes from start to finish.

And I don't use Xfinitys equipment ever. I did about 15 years ago and then got my own and they repeatedly billed me for the equipment rental over and over despite me telling them to stop since I was using my own equipment. Took them literally multiple months to actually stop trying to bill me for equipment I had already returned and wasn't using. Plus there is the hassle of returning it regardless if you use theirs and then cancel. Just not anything I'm ever going to deal with again.
Not anymore
No you don't.
Highly recommend the Hitron Coda56 if you want the latest and greatest. Using your own modem does not put you back on capped internet though, it's still unlimited.
But after a few months of giving up on activating the Xfinity modem, they started pinging me to return it, and updated my plan - losing a discount and uncapped data. After contacting Comcast support, they effectively gave me the discount back, but my data cap remains.
This is probably not a common scenario. I do prefer my own modem, but for most theirs probably works fine. Comcast said there was some problem with my home cabling quality - two of their modems just would not activate. The Hitron went without a hitch. But again, after some time, they gave me the data cap again.
At the start when it doesn't have your exact address, it will be optimistic and show you the speeds that would be available if the mid-split network upgrade was done in your neighborhood. After you put the address in, since your neighborhood does not have the network upgrade, the site knows that now and it shows you the DOCSIS 3.1 upload normal speed. It had nothing to do with what modem they give you.

Your S33 and CM1200 won't take advantage of this, but this is only important if you're in a compatible area (not all areas are in the mid-split yet) and in higher tier internet packages (I have the 1.2gbps package, which gives me 100mbps upload instead of 35). But those 2 modems are still supported so all you'd have to do is plug them in and away you go.
But not all tiers or areas can support this "next gen speeds" so YMMV.
The shocking part wasnt even how fast this information was available it was that I was able to connect my modem and get the internet running at my house LAST NIGHT within 20 minutes total (assuming the provisioning was the thing that took the longest). And this was without Xfinity sending me anything or even confirming anything other than the order! Even got all of my streaming services swapped over through the Xfinity app easy peasy and Apple TV has already credited partial service fee in my bank account this morning!
Ive had Xfinity or Comcast in some form or shape since the 90's and this has been hands down the most painless interaction I have ever had with them lol.
