This 16 inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro stands out for its mini LED display, strong speakers, and workstation cooling, making it especially appealing for media, editing, and desktop replacement use. The chip still feels fast for everyday work, with plenty of headroom for Parallels, VMs, Docker, and other heavier tasks, and the 16GB and 512GB configuration is viewed as practical for most users. The main concern is refurbished condition, especially battery cycles, cosmetic wear, and unknown internal wear. The return window and included Allstate warranty help reduce that risk, and the current price is widely framed as strong value if the battery is decent.

  • The 16-inch M1 Pro model offers a mini-LED display and improved speakers compared with MacBook Air models, which can improve media viewing.

  • The 16-inch chassis provides a better cooling system than fanless Air models, which can help avoid throttling during heavier workloads.

  • The Allstate 1-year warranty can act as a cost backstop if something goes wrong within the first year.

  • The deal includes 30-day returns with seller-paid return shipping, which reduces purchase risk for a refurbished MacBook Pro.

  • Refurbished condition leaves battery health and component wear uncertain, which can affect confidence in long-term reliability.

  • Battery cycle count can be a major risk factor because battery replacement may cost a large fraction of the refurb price.

  • Refurbished listings can vary by grade and may include mislabeled units or non-OEM chargers, so buyers may need to verify the exact model details carefully.

  • Battery replacement pricing can be higher than some expectations, with Apple battery-only service reported around $249.

I wouldn't claim it's better than newer chips, but I think Apple screwed up by making M1 too good. I have M1 Pro 14 inch, and just picked up a 16 inch a week ago. I have M3 Pro 16 for work, and it doesn't feel any faster in day to day use. Literally feels the same, I did some tests opening apps and stuff, and everything is exactly the same. Cinebench is of course better on M3, but it's synthetic bench vs real life use.
Yep, other than video rendering or benchmarks, I don't think an everyday user will notice a difference. It's legit great

I got my wife the 14 inch M1 Pro at same time for like 800, and I have zero regrets w my 16 inch. Granted she's a heavy girl, it's amazing how impressive the machine is.

I have zero desire to upgrade unless it pops smoke one day. I bet I get 10 more years, even if I got zero updates, I'm perfectly happy with the current software

You never know the condition of a 5-year-old refurbished laptop. It is hard to notice the wear and tear until the laptop stops functioning normally at random time.
Oh. Like any device/machine/car? The price reflects that risk.

Do people blast audio out of tinny laptop speakers like they do phone speakers -- or did they find out headphones exist yet?
That's the thing, they're really not that 'tinny' for laptop speakers, esp on the 16" model. Obviously not going to shake the house with bass, but the audio fidelity is among the best in any laptop, ever.

And they're still laughably underwhelming compared to all but the most budget headphones.
Here's how you can tell someone who's been poor their entire life and has never touched a MacBook

Detailed measurements: https://www.notebookcheck.net/App...013.0.html

Please provide an example of a mainstream/same thickness chassis with better speakers? The screen quality and overall materials are not found in this price range on Windows notebooks.

At least with a car, you can replace the tires/air filter/alternator/wheel bearings/etc.

With these all-in-one-board computers, if it so much as develops a hangnail, it gets tossed into the rubbish bin -- or the repair bill is nearly as much as a replacement!

Been using Macs as a daily driver since 2008's first Macbook Air -- so anything else you want to incorrectly assume about me? (don't forget how to spell assume!)

Why am I being tasked to do your homework? I said headphones. Pretty much any mid-tier headphone is going to beat out even the "best" laptop speakers. And you don't have to annoy people around you either!

And the screen -- it's a laptop. You can't reuse that screen, no matter how good it might be. You CAN reuse external displays. Seems like the wrong thing to be dumping money into.
The m1 16 speakers are insane. Atleast for music. Wife can max them out and clean house and be happy

Yep, I use my 14" in my kitchen for music from time to time while cooking.. and sometimes you just don't have a pair of headphones handy (or just don't want to use them).

Every thread you just have to say some of the most fact free things ever. It's like a contest with how ignorant you sound. This is a well engineered set of speakers.

+1. I'm a professional (full-time) music publisher, and the 16" M1 has hands-down the best speakers I've ever seen built into any computer -- and that's in 40+ years of owning computers.
