Roasting pans are an item you never want to use. There's no circulation at the bottom of the pan, which is why any type of roast you cook in it won't cook evenly or having browning at the bottom of the pan. It also traps steam which will soften the outer layer of the roast. They also take up an enormous amount of space. Always stick with an aluminum baking sheet.

So even though there's a rack in the pan that's worse than being flat on a baking sheet? Where all the juices and fat will run off on to the bottom of the oven for a potential fire hazard? Got it.

Think I'll stick with the cooking method that people have been using for a millenia.

There's logic in the statement but it isn't presented well. The difference lies in the depth of the roasting pan. A deep roasting pan can trap steam and prevent airflow which leads to a Dutch oven type effect. Shallow pans are good for airflow and better crust. Just my 2 cents.
