This BOSGAME E5 is a compact Windows mini PC best suited for light desktop use, home theater setups, and retro gaming. The Ryzen 3 5300U, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and 1TB SSD make it a strong value at this price, and it can drive three 4K displays. It also works well as a Kodi or Batocera box and can handle camera monitoring or basic file sharing. Caveats include USB power management that can shut off external drives, reports of awkward network setup, and the older low end CPU being a poor fit for local large language models.

Would this and/or the nicer spec machine be recommended for use as a SteamOS machine ? I'm not trying to use it for brand new games.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

the component crisis has reached peak crazy thanks to the AI nonsense. I'm out of the market for parts and components. Back to books and board games for entertainment. I hope all these companies fueling the AI nonsense go bankrupt. They deserve it.

Solid deal for a home theater PC that can do some retro gaming. Batocera.linux and Kodi are literally free, as well as all major web browsers. Better option than a FireTV, Google stick, etc.
As others have stated, if you spend $100 more, you get better parts. But, the counter point there is that you are spending $100 more.

I'm thinking about making a plex server. I dont think the $80 extra would be worth it for hat use. What your thoughts?

Is this a good deal for home lab to run local LLM, anyone know the vram for this model ? Not sure if it's due to tariffs...I see the mini pc are expensive compared to jun-july now .... disappointed 😞
No, this is not good for local LLMs; it's a 4 year old low end CPU with integrated graphics.

Integrated graphics use the system RAM as their VRAM.

For $80 more you get twice the CPU cores with the 5700U, Zen3 (vs Zen2 for the 5300U and 12%/500Mhz faster boost speed), twice the L3 cache, Vega 8 graphics, dual 2.5GbE, a 2nd NVME slot, and WiFi 6E upgrades. That's a lot for your money for sure. Only lower spec if the 512GB NVME vs 1TB, but both are likely to be non-DRAM having crap and I would replace them anyway.
5700U is still zen2, 5825U is zen3

I would want the extra power. Better integrated graphics (with better transcoding abilities), better CPU (for file transfers and transcoding via CPU), and faster 2.5GbE to connect to a NAS for file share. Also it runs on 25w versus 35w, not that 10w is going to cost much, but it's not nothing over the life of the device.

I stand corrected. The 8MB versus 4MB L3 cache threw me I guess.

If you're asking which brands belong to the famous AceMagic family, they are: AceMagician, Kamrui, NiPoGi, CTONE, and Peladn. It's been a while since the malware incidents, and one would hope they've improved their supply chain hygiene since then. Whether you'd want to take a calculated risk with them is up to you.

BOSGAME products look similar to AZW/Beelink/TRIGKEY products, but BOSGAME seems to be a separate company as far as I could tell. Perhaps they use the same ODMs.

so last week I bought the /////////KAMRUI Refurbished 4K Mini PC Intel N95 16GB DDR4 RAM 512GB M.2 SSD ROM WIFI 5//////// off of ebay for $103 included tax and shipping... now it is a refurb model but Im using this on a wall monitor to display my lorex cameras. I have been using the fire tv boxes but they are crap(always failing and stuck in boot loops) I kind of wish I would have purchased a few more of these minis but.... hopefully this mini doesnt turn out to be junk

Yeah, RAM has quadrupled in price since this time last year. Micron just announced that they are ending their "Crucial" consumer line of products. Open AI has an exclusivity deal to buy ram from Samsung and one other company I can't remember. Consumer built PCs are going to have it rough after the end of this year.

sk hynix was the other partner. they basically bought up 40% of the supply of ram wafers. not even product ready, and they don't have capability at current time or any partners to make those wafers into usable product.

they want to starve competitors of ram during the data center build outs that are happening and everyone is getting shafted by it, doubly so, because your utility bills also go up when the data centers are built nearby.

I am no computer genius, but this seems to be doing weird stuff. It powered up three monitors in 4K with no issue. However, it was not connecting to my internet over LAN. I didn't try wifi, but it shows it as an option. It seems as it kept pushing me to wifi option. When I attempted to "diagnose network problems," The instruction manual tells you to enter the BIOS setup utility, but that doesn't work the way that it instructs either. There are on screen instructions that are different than the manual, and they don't work either. There are other network settings that the internet tells me should be on in services.msc, but not all of them are running. When I start them, there is no resolution to the issue. I have never had weird setup stuff like this before, so I became concerned and unplugged it. I am going to start the return process tomorrow, unless one of you smarter than me people comes up with a reasonable explanation.

As a follow-up, I downloaded a fresh Windows install from Microsoft. I will have to wait until I have access back to having ethernet access tomorrow, but so far, everything I couldn't do before I seem to be able to do. For example, the troubleshooter for network issues operates as you would expect it to. The .cmd prompts are all working as they are supposed to without asking me for passwords that I don't have. It updated all Windows security updates, where it was not allowing or struggling with one of them yesterday.
