I have found these versions a few times at $35 each in warehouse. I bought a bunch of the WALNUT colored ones and saw the OAK colored ones a few weeks ago at the same discount!
These Art3d fluted wood slat panels are mainly a decorative wall treatment that can add some room treatment, but they are not true soundproofing. The foam backing and slats can help a bit with reflections and sound staying in the room, especially in a home theater or bedroom, yet the effect is modest compared with dedicated acoustic or soundproofing materials. The oak finish and accent look are the main draw, though the panels are sharp to handle and some reports call out odor, off gassing, and thin backing. A practical pick if the aesthetic matters more than serious acoustic performance.
buyers who want decorative slat accents on a wall that's already mostly treated because multiple commenters frame these as primarily decor/accent panels for a room intended to be a permanent installation rather than a primary sound solution.
home theater (HT) room builders who want slat-style wall treatments as part of a larger room-treatment plan because commenters say they've used these panels for almost all their HT room treatments and found them a very good resource for room treatments.
people trying to improve bedroom acoustics as a secondary step (not a full "soundproofing" project) because one commenter says it would be better than a bare wall, but still notes you'd likely need a checkered pattern with foam and/or more foam coverage for meaningful results.
people shopping for true soundproofing or "keeping sound out" because commenters repeatedly distinguish these from soundproofing and say they're about keeping sound in (and not optimum for every goal).
people who need acoustic-rated panels for low-frequency absorption because commenters say these are not acoustic rated and that the backing material is thin/low-density, so it won't meaningfully soundproof or acoustically treat low frequencies.
drummers or anyone doing serious noise control who needs dedicated soundproofing performance because one commenter says it will help but far less than dedicated soundproofing, and recommends independently rated solutions if you're really serious.
buyers who are sensitive to strong odors or VOC/off-gassing because commenters report complaints of bad smell, really high VOCs, and off-gassing from these panels.
buyers who want a hassle-free install without extra safety steps because one commenter warns the panels are "sharp" and that during install you definitely need to wear gloves to avoid cutting your fingers.
They are mainly decorative accent panels and do little for true soundproofing. The backing can help a bit with reflections, but the slats themselves are mostly aesthetic, so serious acoustic treatment needs denser, independently rated materials.
At this deal, the Amazon panels come out to about $3.36 per square foot. Costco alternatives have been seen around $64 for similar kits, while Menards has 8x4 panels for about $49.99, which can be cheaper per square foot depending on the product and coverage.
These Art3D panels include foam backing, while the Costco wood-only slat panels do not include an acoustical polyester layer. That means the Art3D version has some acoustic material behind the slats, but it still is not a high-performance soundproofing solution.
They can help somewhat, but mostly as an extra wood layer and not nearly as much as dedicated soundproofing. For better results, adding mass loaded vinyl behind them, or sandwiching foam insulation behind the panels, improves sound reduction.
There are reports of a strong smell, high VOCs, and off-gassing from these panels. If you are sensitive to odors, that is a practical concern to factor in before installing them indoors.
Costco ones are just slats. No acoustical polyester layer.
Seriously doubt these would do anything for acoustics outside of creating more reflections to reduce standing waves, regardless 🤷 ♂️ The acoustical properties of these things are marginal, at best.
Costco ones seem to have quality control issues. Many reviewers are complaining about packaging and materials arriving broken. If not, they seem to be fine.
There is also a foam in these Art3D ones. The Cotsco is wood only. Depending on whether you need actual acoustic properties, it might make a difference.
Also... these are "sharp". I had another color a few months ago. And during install definitely need to wear gloves, or you'd cut your fingers.

Pretty much 😅. I honestly see these more as decor panels to add "accents" to a mostly correctly treated room that's intended to be a permanent installation.
Correct these are basically just for accents/aesthetics.
They really won't do anything for soundproofing or as acoustic treatments.
I would go with 8ft x4ft panels. 4ft would look strange.
Turns out Menards sells 8x4 panels for 50 bucks which is half the price:
American Pacific 4 x 8 Teak Fluted Wall Panel at Menards® 49.99
Those are not acoustic rated. If you want proper acoustic panels, they have ~8x2' panels for $55 (after menards rebate), or about 15.4sqft for which ends up being $3.57/sqft. Just a bit more expensive than this amazon deal ($3.36/sqft). Amazon is cheaper and less headache.
Yes, this will help. But not nearly as much as dedicated soundproofing solutions.
The thickness and density of the material underneath determines how much sound is absorbed. The slats on top are decorative. Because the slats are hanging on the acoustic fabric or foam (depending on brand), and not directly on the wall, they'll be pretty neutral. Not perfectly neutral, but unless you're building an anechoic room, reflections from the slats are rarely enough to matter.
It's all a tradeoff. If you're really serious about soundproofing, you'll ignore this and look for independently rated solutions much better than these.
They would work okay to reduce sound, mostly just as another layer of wood, about the same as adding another layer of drywall, but would be much, much improved if you put a sheet of "mass loaded vinyl" behind them, and even better if it were sandwiched with a foam insulation sheet.

These are the costco equivalents. they used to be $50 a pack (39 if you got lucky). Now its $64
ROUGHLY the same price if you can find the costcos at $50, but costco has more dividers/lines.
Otherwise, these are cheaper.

What an embarrassment, it's time for a total renovation. What's Martha saying we have to buy this year?
