Its the successor to the Q80D. I own a Q80C which is a great tv and the Q80D is better. The main difference is the QN80F has Minileds. Its a total steal at that price and will stand the test of time as opposed to Hisense and TCL models. Rtings tests mean absolute squat. So many of their specs are useless. They seem to endlessly favor Chinese tvs God only knows why. Again, this tv is a steal under $800. I would buy it in heartbeat if I didn't recently buy mine.

Pretty sure all Q80s have mini led backlights with local dimming. The Q80 is Samsung's second best qles tv. I have the q90 and it's excellent.

Lol, to the discerning eye rtings test mean quite a bit. They have literally made the evaluation of a TV quantitative instead of favoring brand bias. As someone who owns 3 Samsung QD-OLEDs, an LG OLED TV, an LG OLED monitor, and a Hisense U8K mini-LED, the Hisense has excellent picture quality that punches far above its weight class / comparably priced models from Korean brands. Just like vehicles, all brands have base models and premium trims. The difference with Hisense and TCL is that you get the premium trim for the base model price when compared to others.

There was a time in which Samsung had an awesome line-up 60,70,80 & 90 series.
The 60 series was the best bang for the buck models lacking all the bells and whistles but with an excellent picture quality.
The 80 series was 95% percent as the their top of the line 90 series but lacking certain features.
Nowadays...Thee only Samsung TVs worth buying are the QN90F & S95F.

I'm going to make an analogy here. Samsungs are like Toyotas. They are rock solid, work great and last for years. Hisense and TCL are like Nissans, sometimes they look better, have more HP and more features standard, but in the end they suck last half as long and all kinds of problems.

My QN90A's Basic navigation is slow as molasses, often freezes, and is clunky AF. On the plus site, unlike the hisense I bought at the same time it hasn't needed a new main board yet.
