Anyone have this unit who can comment on it? Guessing it's entry level?

I bought it to replace an existing cheap Samsung 4K TV I bought like 5 years ago and I like it. From my understanding, the 55 (also bought that) has more dimming zones than the 50. I have it wired up an Apple TV 4K (with match content turned on) and it seems to support VRR over HDMI 2.0 (guessing up to 4K 60, higher under 1440P.) We just watch streaming content for the most part and have been impressed so far. I find its default settings almost too bright tbh (even in a room with big window.)

The RTings review for this seeeeem to be pretty good (not quite as good as the QM6K.) They seeeem close if you dont need the higher framerate for 4K gaming; the QM6K has more dimming zones as well. For me, it was a noticeable improvement though. At $300, I'd recommend it. I wish it came in the 98" size as I would buy it.

Although the quality on display from the QM6K is respectable, it would be considered a slight downgrade compared to the TCL 55R646 according to RTings which I purchased from Best Buy on sale for $399 during the BF period in 2023: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...-2021-qled
I currently use my 55R646 as a computer monitor.

The 55R646 was reviewed on their older testing baseline (1.11) while the QM6k is on the newer one (2.0.1.) I believe RTings changes their scoring baseline every few years so generally, I think you can only compare their reviews across the same testing baseline (ie a high score on the previous baseline potentially wouldnt receive the same score on the newer one.) Kinda makes sense as higher end features generally move downstream as time moves on.

I would be inclined to think that RTings' past testing methodology doesn't vary drastically aside from what they do currently when comparing different "testing baseline" versions in which you are referencing especially since RTings had recently reran their tests for the 55R646 as far back as September this year.

If you look at the 55R646 review changelog, the only recent update was to their Accelerated Longevity Test. The base review hasnt been updated since April 2023.

The comparison of RTings reviews comes up often. Here's what one of their reviewers mentioned when asked about comparing two tvs reviewed on two different major methodologies versions [reddit.com].

It's not possible, unfortunately, as we usually don't just update the scoring we run new tests as well. For old TVs that we don't have anymore there's simply no way for us to know how they would measure on the new tests. Especially when there's a major revision, like something going from a 1.X to 2.X, the scores are completely different.

One of the reasons our scoring changes is that the market changes, so what we consider "good" is relative to the state of the market at the time.

I think it was $279 on Black Friday but it's still a good deal.

There was the costco exclusive model (very similar) but 144hz that went for 280$.
