Glass carafes sit on the hotplate and cook your coffee as long as the machine is on. That's how it keeps it "warm" and it ruins your coffee.
If you go to a machine that uses a stainless carafe (and importantly, no hotplate) it'll keep the coffee warm by insulation. It works by preventing the coffee from losing heat rather than constantly adding heat.
I drink a pot of coffee a day and a stainless carafe keeps my coffee drinkably hot for 8 hours.
Otherwise pretty much every coffee machine works the exact same way and are virtually indisttiguishable from one another. They boil water and the steam pressure forces that boiling water through a little tube up to the coffee basket where it drips onto the grounds, seeps through, and into your container.
The carafe hasn't broken but I don't handwash it. I broke too many a bodum glassware before I learned handwashing was higher risk in our house.
