Where does the $399 come from? How is this a deal when other providers have get a free iPhone 17 without a trade-in.

Plus requires financing the device. Not slick indeed.

Technically you can pay off $400 with credits after 16weeks and hopefully move out of the plan so you are NOT stuck in 24mo-36mo contract with monthly credits.

As always, but that's ok with me. No way I'm taking a change and changing my plan for a free/discount phone and hoping they don't screw up any of the discount or free lines.

It was the phone plan T-Mobile had several years ago. Many of us stayed on the plan as we had discount or free lines that T-Mobile would not transfer to the newer plans. So our plans are way cheaper than current rates but we don't usually get any promotion phone offers, or if our plans are included the offers are usually only couple hundred dollars off the phone vs free or almost free offers.
