Interesting! I own the Thermomaven and it works pretty well. Although, the Typhur one comes in different colors. LOL!

Immediately returned from last deal. Internal temp was off 20 degrees and ambient over 50.

I have this, it's super cool. To me the only downside is the probe size, wish it was small enough for chicken breasts or thin burgers.
The predictive temperature is amazing, if you want consistent medium rare, this is your go to.
Great stocking stuffer for a carnivore. The app is way nicer than it should be for $30.

I'm actually trying this right now. Ambient temperature is about 40F off from my wired Inkbird setup. Internal is about 5F difference but that could be on placement.

I bought the two probe one last night before I tested this as it seems like a neat idea but the ambient is incredibly aggravating.

Probably going to send this back and try the two probe unit and see if it's any better.

Good catch, even their better one with more probes looks exactly the same as the Thermomaven.

can you add a 2nd probe to the unit, or does it have to be a model that comes with more probes from the start?
(models with 2 probes cost 2-3x as much and use a different home/base than this single probe model.)

I'd be interested if someone else could repeat the experiment I did with mine; right now I'm not convinced it's actually any good.
I've tried heating different spots on the probe (tip, middle, other end before ceramic), and the "middle" readings always significantly lag the tip and end.
For instance, if you take a hot spoon, and touch the middle, the tip and end readings will be hotter than the middle reading, even allowing some time for stuff to adjust. Or, if you dip the tip in hot water, the tip responds first, followed by the other end, followed by the middle.
Either it's miswired, or perhaps the central probe doesn't have good contact with the probe body, making them useless.
Perhaps my unit is just faulty, but I'm a bit miffed either way. But yeah, if someone could try the same experiment I'd be grateful.

Looks the same, but the Typhur says it's gen 2 while this one just gen 1... unless the Thermomaven Gen 1 is the same as Typhur Gen 2 somehow.

Funny thing, I was trying to research if this unit was actually any good since I need a temp probe very soon for a turkey. Found a Reddit post that basically said ThermoMaven is a subsidiary of Typhur and that these units should essentially be the same between both brands. There was a lot of discussion about it being "NIST-Certified" and someone did some digging and found that out.Anyway, I took a chance and bought it when it was posted yesterday because reviews online seemed pretty good. Reading some of the comments in this thread has me a little worried though...

From my understanding, Typhur and Thermomaven brands are the owned by the company. Thermomaven is their value line.

If you are wanting a budget probe, sure give this a try. If you are wanting something very substantial, look into thermoworks wireless probes. They cost more but highly accurate and rugged.
