Kind of have to wholeheartedly disagree here. For $150 hundred dollars more, you get a significantly faster processor, significantly faster graphics chip, and double storage.

Good deal. There has been a dearth of low-priced productivity desktops. Out of the two, the 8500G config is the better value.

I feel like with the right GPU this could be a great entry-level gaming PC as well. Something like a 3060 for cheap would immediately let you play almost any modern AAA game at 1080p if you don't mind low-mid settings

this setup is not for "power" users. what you should have said is for $150 less, get a slower processor (5600g?) with a less powerful igpu, and you wouldn't even feel the difference.

Power supply is limited and replacing it is hard

Again disagree. The gpu alone can be the difference between successfully pushing multiple displays with high refresh rates and high pixel density. $599 gets you a 125% faster gpu which makes the difference in being able to play some games decently.

This is definitely one of those scenarios where buy nice or buy twice is gonna bite you as you'll be upgrading the $449 model much sooner.

280W PS -- ugh.

Looking for something I can drop in a spare RTX 4070 for my nephew's starter gaming rig.
I really can't go above $500. Anyone come across any decent deals?

Dang, RAM is getting expensive these days.

Nice of them to throw in the rest of the computer for free, though.

8000G processors weren't a good gaming value when they were launched, I don't think they're good now. The 8500G is not far off from the 245K iGPU as far as I can tell, and 8600G would be better at that price.

8700G isn't great either (see reviews) but I could see shelling out the extra cash for it.

If you need "productivity", just buy a cheap computer from ebay.

Can you point me to such a setup at that price? I'm not being cheeky, I'm actually in the market and would pounce on the PC you described.

Sorry for any confusion but what I am saying is the more expensive pc in this deal is the better value in my mind.

Not to pontificate, but I have significant professional and personal experience in hardware and building computers and I would choose the more expensive model based on value, future proofing, and not wanting to fool with upgrading components.

With the emergence of high refresh, high density monitors that are not gaming per se (think 4k 120Hz), the need is becoming more critical for higher graphics processing. The graphics "chip" is 125% better in benchmark scores, the processor is 50% better in benchmark scores, and the harddrive is double the size which is important if you want to enlarge the size of your main hard drive without reformatting or reimaging on a new hard drive, which would be a challenge for most non technical folks.

The Radeon 740M is a let down. If this was an 840M that would be a different story.

Again, the more expensive one has 780M...
