Lots of reviews saying the product arrived with missing sockets. I'd be careful.

Yep, usually with sets like these, you just get a 50 pound box filled with bags of sockets.

No rails, nothing labeled. So you have to check off each one on the sheet you get in the box - making sure you don't have missing sockets, or duplicates.

Make sure you order rails for all these!

The advantage with this set is all the deep sockets. I grabbed one of the 202 pc Tractor Supply Sets (GW72MLCBMTS) for $45 on Monday because it seemed like a deal. It's a good 'cover the waterfront' collection for somebody who doesn't have much but no deep sockets. I plan to gift it.

Got a link for these or in store only? All I'm seeing online is the 159 piece set for $99 and the Craftsman verastack 242 piece for $99 and lots fo fillers on that one.

I'd love to meet an actual human that uses more than, say..20 sockets regularly out of any of these on a regular basis... waste of $$.

Here is a list of included sockets
https://www.gearwrench.com/all-to...socket-set

Keep in mind, this is a socket set only. It can't be compared to the X# of parts auto tool sets because it isn't a tool set. Without ratchets it doesn't work. It doesn't have extensions or hex keys etc.

However, if you are starting off and don't mind spending the money, this is nice because it's a very complete set of sockets (at least in the 1/4 and 3/8 range). It's a similar set to this Husky from a few years back
https://slickdeals.net/e/13784996-husky-1-4-in-3-8-in-and-1-2-in-drive-socket-set-200-piece-58-99
That one was nicer in that it covered a bigger range and was much cheaper. However, I don't think the actual sockets were as nice.

The down side to this deal is the 1/2 drive stuff is too limited. The metric sizes are just repeats of the 3/8 drive. That's not bad when dealing with the larger sized sockets but I'm not sure why I would need a 10mm 1/2 drive... unless I lost all the other 10mm sockets.

It's nice that these are 6 pt and the selection of all but the 1/2 are good. The 1/2 isn't terrible since often if you need a metric over 24mm, the SAE sizes are often good enough.

So while it has some extras and could use more large metric sockets, it's a very solid starting point.

Of course you will have to add storage, ratchets, extensions, adapters etc.

The reality is, you almost always use just a few. If you work on a Japanese car you will see 8, 10, 12, 14, 17. You will wonder why they ever include a 13 or 15. If you work on bikes you will often see 15. If you work on American and German cars you will see 10, 13 and other stuff. I've only ever needed 1 3/16 for one job. But I needed if for that job. Fortunately the Huksy set had it. I agree, you will only use a few, but depending on the application, which few?

Sounds like I can just buy those sizes and cover 99% of my car needs.

Almost...

Those sizes will cover most needs. Then you will have to remove a crank bolt or an axle nut. Or you have a car that uses torx and you will need that set. Or you have a Jeep with a 4.0 and you will need ever damn size in both metric and SAE. If you have a SAAB it's almost as bad. It's all metric but it's also what ever sizes they could get.

Also, there is no way you can have just one 10mm or 12 or what ever size. Thanks to access issues you will need shallow, deep, and likely a bunch of other ones.

Personally, I like to have 1/4 deeps in 8mm to 14mm. I think 9 might be the only one I've ever missed.
In 3/8 I want 12-17 deep. In standard depth I've used even more as some crank bolts and suspension bolts are rather large. So call it 17+ a few other sockets.
The 1/2 are typically random suspension bolts or crank/axle nuts. Those are often 19 to perhaps 27.

I just figured I would get the whole damn set.

I was just messing. I already have a tiny Dewalt socket set and rarely F with my car. I do have to change my o2 sensor soon so watch me need something different than what I have on hand just cause I put it out there.

This set looks like a hassle to organize.

There are people that don't lease a new car every 3 years
