Sonos Arc Ultra with Sub 4 and Era 300s is a premium surround package that stands out for easy setup, clean living room integration, and strong movie and music playback in open spaces. The Era 300s are included here, and the black version is already down to low stock, with the same price reportedly available direct from Sonos. The main tradeoff is that this is still a virtual Atmos system, so it will not match a full receiver and speaker setup, and long term app reliability has been a concern for some. A good fit if convenience matters more than chasing the absolute best home theater performance.

$2200 is a shit load of money but I have to say, if I were to start all over with my home theater I just might forego the Denon receiver, SVS sub, and the 7 main/surround/Atmos speakers for the SONOS setup.

I know, I know - the complete home theater would sound better, but SONOS comes close *and* it's so much easier to set up.
If your room allow proper full benefit of "virtual" bouncing sound, than pretend that you will experience immersive Dolby/DTS/Atmos.

Nothing will replace actual speakers setup, even cheapest will outperform soundbars.

I've done both the receiver/surround setup and now I have a Sonos setup (refurb Arc Shadow + Sub gen 3 + 2x refurb One SLs; and I just picked up a par of refurb Era 300s to replace the One SLs).

I'm not an audiophile, and I greatly prefer the Sonos setup. If you're smart with your purchases you can get a full Sonos setup way under MSRP (either through sales, or with refurb purchases). It's extremely easy to setup (way, way easier to setup than a receiver system; plug 'em in, set them up in the app, run Trueplay, and you're good to go), sounds terrific, and I honestly can't tell the difference between my Sonos setup and my former receiver setup.

That's because you didn't set up your speaker system properly.

Yes these are easier to set up and can be more aesthetically pleasing, that is what you are actually paying for.

You are getting a simulation of Atmos surround.
If you want to believe you're actually getting Atmos, no argument/debate there, that is your prerogative.

i have an arc sitting in the corner collecting dust right now. it worked fine at first, but after about a few years and several software updates, it would constantly disconnect from the app and stop working until i factory reset it.

i went back to a receiver and speaker set up. it takes up more space, but it sounds better and it's so much more reliable.

i also have a sonos one that doesn't work with the current app. i'm sure there's a way to get it working. i just don't have the time and patience to figure out, to possibly have it break again with another update

i might just be getting old, but i'm done with sonos.

Yeah yeah, that's the common response, but the fact is me and most people don't want to go through the rigamarole of measuring/placement/blah blah blah of setting up their system. A separate receiver system requires proper calibration (distance, crossover, level setting) and careful speaker placement to sound its best. Yes the potential performance of a traditional system is higher, but it takes a lot of effort to achieve it. It's for hobbyists, not end users. I just want something that is easy and sounds great. I get 90% of the quality of a traditional surround system with 10% of the hassle; indistinguishable difference to the average user. That is the real appeal and value of Sonos.

That's exactly my point!
All that "blah blah blah" is why people think it's close(90%)!
Physics alone tells you one cannot do what the other can.
If you want to believe a soundbar defies physics by 90%, no debate there!

I have samsung q990a from few years ago and it's great in my basement with projector. For my living room I got Sonos Arc for 400 and Arc Ultra for 879 during blackfriday with 30% cashback from capital one shopping. Still need to decide Arc ultra should stay as I don't want too much clutter in living room. I also got an open box arc to test and it sounds good so I am thinking if it's just better to keep normal arc or ultra

Stupid overpriced imo. But if you are looking at this you probably dont care / are ok with overpaying for tech anyway.
I see this comment in most Sonos post and yet don't see anyone back it up with other options that have the same functionality as Sonos.

If you enjoy paying a premium price for a glitchy terrible muscle system, buy this.
Can you explain "glitchy terrible muscle system". I couldn't find that phrase in the urban dictionary

Anyone know if you use these 300s it coverts your entire system to WiFi instead of wired. I have my entire system hard wired which helps with tv input reducing lag. Previously one non wired makes the whole thing go wireless.

Agreed. Sonos has found a way to get people to overpay for absolute mid sounding products. They're the Beats of the speaker world.
Reminds me of the Bose fad around 20 years ago.

That's an apples n oranges comparison.

This is not capable of providing anywhere close to the performance of what a speaker based surround is capable of, especially a "Atmos" one!

Improper implementation is often the reason people think they are close.
Agree - I have an area where I didn't want to have the clutter of a separates system, so I bought this Arc Ultra + Sub 4 kit (minus the surrounds) to replace a 20 year old basic Yamaha amp and Boston Acoustics system which doesn't even have ATMOS capability. I have calibrated everything and am COMPLETELY underwhelmed with the SONOS audio experience. It is inferior in all ways to the prior setup and is getting returned.
