What a great deal, unfortunately I don't have the neutral wire in this 70s home.

But I'm here to say I bought the Tapo Smart Lamp Dimmer kit P135 (matter) last week for $20ish and I couldn't be happier with it. I just bought 2 more this morning.

It comes with a remote switch. The Tapo app made setting up a bunch of customizations so easy. Control by Alexa works great.

So if anyone else lacks a neutral wire but still wants great customization in a plug setting, I highly recommend any Tapo matter product and especially their app for setup.

Not from what I can tell. 😞 They're $15/switch right now, which looks like a pretty common price on these ones.

If you don't have a neutral wire, you should check out Leviton, Lutron, or GE smart light switch/dimmer. They offer no neutral option and it's a cleaner look than using a lamp dimmer kit which is essentially a plugin switch. There might be more companies that also have no neutral option, but I personally know these brands because I installed them successfully in my friend's house which doesn't have neutral.

Yes, thx, in hindsight I should've purchased the Lutron hub a few years back but didn't. I do have Lutron dimmer switches in my hall, guest bath and laundry for the LEDs, just not smart connected.

And last year I purchased those super cheap Phillips par38 lamps for the 6 canister lights in my kitchen. Those are wifi smart (no neutral) via the Wiz app, so I control those via Alexa voice with no problem. Super happy with that set-up and recommend those too to any Slickdealers when they come up again.

I just had a hankering to finish up my LR and bedroom lamps and came across those Tapo link plugs and was really happy with their app and customizations I could make for very little money.

I probably should sit down and figure it out all over again using a hub, as tech has improved so much in the last few years, but for now I have to settle for my piece-meal approach done on the cheap!

Lucky all you guys with your neutral wires!

as white has to be >90% of the market it's the only color i'd expect to be on slickdeals outside of discontinued products

Damn, where was this deal a few months ago when I replaced every light switch in my house. I bought this exact set plus a smaller set and then a bunch of Kasa ones. Both are Tp-link just Tapo is their newer line if I remember correctly and Kasa is cheaper. You have to get separate apps for installing them but then can control them all from a single app. Also if you're using any of these in a row instead of singles you'll have to buy separate plates. At this price I may honestly buy more for the ones I didn't use a WiFi paddle for cus it has been super convenient having WiFi dimmers in each room. Especially when I'm leaving the house, going to bed, or it's movie night and I can tell Google to turn all lights off. I also have them on schedules. Also don't forget not all lightbulbs are dimmable. We had to replace most of ours after switching to dimmers.

Yeah, this deal's lukewarm at best, and how can a 4 pack sale for $90 when the 2 pack sales for $31??? 50% off is total BS.

How do you know if you have a neutral or not? My home is from the '50s

I don't know if I have neutral or not. Is my house is from the '50s. Is there any downside in getting one of these leviton or lutron ones that are neutral-free in terms of safety and protection for your electronics?

I guess the alternative is to have an electrician come out and somehow add a neutral but that's going to be probably very expensive.

Can you send the model number you installed at your friends? I have a 4 way and no neutral, been trying to make it smart but no luck.
