I just used this Paypal through Chase deal to buy a gift card a couple days ago and got slammed with a $10 transaction fee from Chase. Apparently Paypal uses a cash advance to process some transactions like these, which Chase is happy to charge more for. I don't know if the culprit is Paypal or Chase, but I'll be avoiding using Paypal for gift cards going forward. Super shady.
What was the store's name?

It was Noodles and Company. I bought a $50 gift card using PayPal and got a nice $10 extra thank you charge from Chase for my purchase. I've used this PayPal through Chase for years. First time this happened, but I haven't used it for gift cards before that I remember.

This sounds like merchant/paypal problem rather than Chase problem. It sounds like you got charged $10 for cash advance, some merchant/paypal mix are coded as cash advance, so you got charged cash advance fee. I used Chase/Paypal through Google Pay for a starbuck GC, and I didn't not experience additional charges. This is like 3 days ago.

Agreed. I don't believe this should be the case for all gift cards. But since it's impossible to predict in advance of purchase, for me, I'm going to avoid the hassle going forward.

PayPal Debit Card Earn 5% cash back. People on the internet said they get 5% cash back from Walmart and Target under grocery category. Will it work on this deal?

What do you buy so much of at target? Do you get free shipping on small amounts if you pay with target giftcard? Or do you have to use gift cards along with a red card to get free shipping below $35? Sounds like a hassle. Since I'm mostly shopping online, seems like less deals upfront at target. As opposed to getting cashback rewards… haven't even been able to use up the few reward points before they expire. No more deals on Signing up for red cards?…When will their iPads be on sale again? Totally missed all last week sales
Diapers.

Or pay with a target card instead of PayPal for an instant 5% off
The Red card does not give 5% off gift cards...

TARGET sells nothing but overpriced junk. 15% off does not even cover half of their 500% markup. the store is well on its way to bankruptcy.
Some people have kids. Target sells diapers and baby food.
