Speaking from personal ownership

This is a great unit
Probably more suited to a more medium space

I suggest checking out the owner's forum on AVS. Many of them have owned this AVR since its introduction in 2021
There are lot of tips and tricks that can be learned from those that have actually owned the unit for years
There is a high satisfaction from what I have read

I was certainly satisfied with my unit when I owned it

I was trying to find a reason to avoid buying the RZ70 on E Expo for $1795 since it's totally unnecessary for my setup. This literally couldn't have come at a better time for me. Thanks for posting!!!

Aw man, and I just received my RZ30.
Check to see if you can still do the PayPal Pay-in-4 20% off. I used that on the RZ30 and made the price effectively $599 with cashback.

There isn't anything specifically I'd want from the RZ50, other than maybe native Alexa integration and the beefier amp. But then the newer RZ30 has two independent sub outs. For those worried about HDMI issues, that was many years/generations ago. Nowadays, Denon/Onkyo probably have the best HDMI implementation. The RZ30/RZ50 are both great receivers with awesome deals this holiday season.
How'd you get that deal? I would prefer the 30 as is more future proof and I don't need the extra channels.

There was a promotion from PayPal where, if you used PayPal's pay in 4 payments plan (0% interest), you'd get 20% off your purchase. I used it when there was a deal for the Denon x3800h for around $1189 + tax where some of us were buying that and getting 25,000 reward points back from PayPal which translates to another $250 cash back. I think initially you could use that 20% off on multiple purchases, but PayPal caught on and allowed you to only use it one time (?) later, but still honored all purchases before they caught it. I don't think the promotion still exists - it was originally only supposed to run until early December, I think.

I have been looking at the RZ30 and adding a couple Fosi V3 monoblock amps ($130 ea) for the LR channels to push my Dynaudio Audience 72 4 ohm front speakers. I looked at the Denon 3800 and for the price difference the RZ 30 with the two amps seems to be much cheaper. RZ30 is $899 at Electronics Expo now. Denon quality and reliability is not what it once was so keep that in mind.

Just got my rz30 this weekend, used my PayPal 20% off too. I probably would've gone for this for $80 extra. Oh well
I thought that Paypal deal was dead. What exactly did you do to get it?

I own this receiver and have been using it for roughly a year.

This review NAILS it. Power limiting is still an issue. I heard the difference during ANY scenes in movies that remotely pushed my speakers. It comes off kind of "muddy". Keep this in mind if you have decent speakers you want to drive, I have SVS Prime Towers and a 5.2.4 speaker setup

Keep in mind, when they say 120 watts @ 8 Ohms that's STEREO driven, it gets way worse in a setup like mine.

I still bought it knowing all of this because I paired this with an Emotiva 3 channel amp for the front channels. It was cheaper to do it this way than the RZ70 (which also has power limit issues) and had pre-out for the amp.

SUPER happy with this setup, it sounds amazing, and is consistent now.

I made the purchase on black Friday, I was able to activate and use it 20% off. I received the rewards points yesterday, so ~2 weeks post purchase.

Yes looks like it is
You seem very knowledgeable about this stuff. I have a speaker setup configuration question.

My house was wired with 5 in ceiling recessed speakers in my listening room. 3 across the front and two in the rear. I also have 3 front larger speakers on the ground a LRC setup. What are my speaker configuration options as far as setting this thing up. Can I use all the speakers with any of these AVR receivers with the standard setup options? I do not have a sub but my Dynaudios give pretty good bass alone.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Why? I ready the z30 might be the better buy because of the independient subs, never parts and diract compatibility

Yea, I did read up on the differences after posting that and agree the rz30 is newer and the better purchase for me.

My question is when hooking up sources, is it better to connect to the receiver first, or the TV first with output to receiver? I have a LG c Series OLED.

A lot of unknowns but most logical would be 5.0.2 but not ideal.

In general, the in ceiling speakers can be used as surrounds(rear) and or height(front). You could also use the rear ones as overhead or height if you bought another pair of speakers for surrounds.
Would not be ideal though.

You could look at this for options based on your setup.

You can drop Pioneer for consideration as they no longer make AVRs!
if thats the case, you would have to drop Onkyo, Denon, Marantz, Integra, Harmon Kardon, etc.,. the list is endless. Denon/Marantz, Bowers & Wilkins, Harman Kardon are part of Samsung now; Onkyo, Integra, Pioneer (not anymore), Klipsch are part of Voxx. Pioneer AVRs were manufactured by the Voxx group under license from Pioneer but that license has ended and manufacturing has stopped. All great brands are really gone now. It's really sad. Only Yamaha, Sony manufactures their own in the budget category.

The "limp mode" you're alluding to is lost on this SD crowd where money is king (and not SQ). However, I haven't heard about this issue impacting the RZ70 so please share a link where you have seen this on their flagship AVR!
