TP Link Tapo mini smart plugs are a compact way to add energy monitoring, scheduling, and Alexa control to lamps, holiday lights, outdoor lights, heaters, and other 15 amp, 1800 watt devices. The schedules can keep running even if the home network or Alexa is down, and the plugs also work with the Tapo app and newer Sense energy monitoring support. The night light can be disabled or dimmed, and the small size fits tight spots behind furniture. The main caveat is that all outlets are front facing, so they do not solve side outlet clearance needs, and Matter support is not included.

What is matter enabled?
Matter is a platform that allows devices to talk directly to an owner's "hub", whether Google, Alexa, or HomeAssistant, provided they have on-site hardware. This allows the data to stay local if you're set up for it (HomeAssistant), or to be at least able to be used if Tapo decides to stop its cloud services.

Actually more than a few bucks ($8+ more in my case with tax factored in) as this matter version doesn't have the 25% back with Prime Card Bonus.
While I agree normally this model can be used and provisioned local only using the python kasa library. At about $4.50 per plug I will grab this rather than spend a few bucks more per plug for matter support

Better for future proof and only few bucks more

Wish it was thread enabled too. Would be good to have thread routers scattered around the home.

These are now (newly) compatible with the Sense energy monitoring system.

I have a few at home and they're brilliant, however are there any variants that are 110-220v to use on holiday in the countries that use US style outlets? I have a few Kasa plugs but their spec sheets says 100-125v~

Why 2.4G Wi-Fi Only?
Mostly due to two things. Range of signal and uniform compatibility. Even the oldest routers support 2.4.

I have a few of these and I love them. 3 independent switched plugs, 3 always on, and 3 USB switched. https://a.co/d/1FcyYvU
How does that help the person who asked about something with side outlets so furniture can go against the wall? Not only are all 6 outlets front-facing on this, but none of them are energy monitoring.

These practically replace those timer power plugs with the rotating dial that you push/pull tabs for on/off.

My use case around the house - voice activated or scheduled:
  1. Lamps (multiple around the house)
  2. Holiday lights
  3. Hallway llights
  4. Bathroom heaters

Are these backwards compatible with the Kasa app? All my plugs/bulbs are currently Kasa.

No. Kasa items can be used in the Tapo app using the same account. But Tapo items don't show up in the Kasa app.

I have both apps on my phone.

Thanks. This fits a need I have perfectly. I have an outlet with a Frankenstein mix of outlet multipliers and smart plugs/usb ports and have been looking for something like this. Ordered it 5 minutes ago.
