One of my absolute favorite series ever. Great production value. Great soundtrack by Jeff Beal really set the mood. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Definitely worth owning.
Cast / acting was exceptional - male and female alike. RIP Ray Stevenson.
The first season of the show was amazing. I have no doubt that the rest of the seasons would have also been great.
For those who don't know, this show was planned to run for four or five seasons. HBO told them halfway through the second season's filming that the show was going to be canceled. The show runners made a decision to try to wrap up the history of Rome in that short time.
It only lasted two seasons because the show was extremely expensive to produce and HBO had some doubts it could be the flagship show for them as "The Sopranos" was wrapping up. As it turned out, the ratings were strong enough but it was too late to reverse the decision.
