Nobody asked for a walk back in the memory lane, but here it is regardless.

Before 2000, MAG was a real monitor brand and was the first to offer a 17" CRT for $699 (don't laugh) when most mainstream consumer can only afford 14" or 15".

The funder of MAG (a 26 years old) went on funded Vizio.

MAG in this case is merely a Series from MSI, not a revived brand.

As a VA panel owner with a 165hz refresh rate, I don't agree with this assessment.

OLED is simply a stronger tech for games, and IPS has better viewing angles. Yes I've simplified the differences, but if you have a quality VA panel, then any typical criticisms are minor or nonexistent

VA panels have slow response times and blur issues. Not a good combo for a "gaming" monitor.

Omg I think I had one of those 17" crts. Those things were huge and HEAVY. My cheap desk sagged from the weight! But a great step up from the 15" monitors. Loved the degauss button. Thanks for bringing up fond memories. Those were the days...

I had one of the original MAG monitors! They lasted forever. I think my dad used his until like 2012.

Today I have 3 32" LG curved monitors. How far we've come!

I don't remember what I had, but I had 2 matching 21" CRTs. One of which I bought off a coworker sometime between Jan 2006 - June 2007. Think they might have been Dells or Gateways. It's been a few years and my memory is poop. Those things were heavy though.

Can anyone comment on if this is actually a decent monitor for its price? I am looking for a new curved monitor for around this price point.

This is not a deal, 6-9 months back there was a bunch of these 34" wide VA monitors, Samsung's, LG's and other brands too, all for around $200. (I know I've got 2 of them!)

Just to add to the fun history. He didn't just leave mag and start vizio randomly. He survived the crash of Singapore Air flight 006. After this he shut down all his businesses including MAG, helped Gateway develop a low cost large flat screen, then started V Inc (Vizio).
